Folding@Home vs. Genome@Home

I confess I'm a little confused, so perhaps someone can help me out. My Folding@Home client allows me to select either Folding@Home or Genome@Home, but I'm entered only on the Anandtech Genome@Home team. Have I been doing work that has not been counted? Should I sign up for the Folding@Home team too?

Thanks for the clarification!

folding at home is something like a new version of genome at home, anyway ur work should be counted for the team.
for more information about folding@home click on my blue sign, down there! :)
f@h team is small and right now need help to stay at 17th position!

Hmmm. Thanks for the update. Sounds like I should go ahead and sign up for the Folding@Home team as well. I'll do it!

Ah, perhaps I'm being a little hasty and had better get some additional info. Would it be better to sign up for the Folding@Home team or should I transfer from the Genome@Home team to the Folding@Home team? If I were to transfer, I assume what I have accumulated thus far would move with me.

Also, is a transfer even possible and, if so, how would I go about doing it? Thanks again!

i am a little confused about this myself. I believe that folding@home and genome@home have merged into folding@home. I believe that if you download the latest folding@home client from and folding.stanford.edu you can do both projects and your score will count toward our folding@home team assuming you register for it. I have been getting some genome@home and they have been counting for our folding@home team.

In closing, we would definitely appreciate any extra help on our team. :)

You can have genome WU count for either Folding@home or Genome@home, depending on which client you use and how you configure it. This is an exerpt from the GAH FAQ:

Will my existing or future Genome@home stats count towards Folding@home?

It depends.

Completed workunits from the Genome@home Classic client will have nothing to do with Folding@home stats. Workunits generated by the G@h Classic client (currently version 0.99) will continue to count exclusively towards the Genome@home stats, on this website.

If you run the Folding@home2.x/3.0 clients with no special configurations, you will receive a mix of F@h and G@h workunits. All completed work will count exclusively towards Folding@home stats, no matter what core generated them. For example, workunits generated by the particular F@h3.0 core which runs the G@h protein design algorithm (Core_c9.exe) will count towards the Folding@home stats, and will never enter the G@h Classic system.

However, if you configure the F@h2.x/3.0 clients with your existing Genome@home team number (i.e. a number greater than 100,000), you will receive exclusively G@h workunits and all your completed work will be credited to your existing Genome@home stats. This allows Genome@home users to run the F@h3.0 client while still remaining part of the Genome@home project.

Well, so far as I can tell:

1) There are still two teams, Folding@Home and Genome@Home;
2) I can switch back and forth at will simply by changing the Team Number in my Client, where
Team Anandtech under Folding@Home is Team Number 198,
Team Anandtech Under Genome@Home is Team Number 604374405;
3) Units accrued to one Team Number will NOT be transferred to another (unless the two teams are eventually merged by Stanford);
4) I have been running the latest Client, Version 3.14, since I began folding.

I have changed my Team Number to 198 for my current work unit, which is 50% complete. We'll see what happens.

Ken

P.S. MereMortal appears to have confirmed this. MM, thanks for sifting through the FAQ for me; I appreciate it.

agreed, and I think it would be a good idea to give up our G@H team and target our effort to F@H (you can still work on G@H units if you want... just let the points get accounted to our F@H team)
