Folding@Home vs Distributed folding

Whats the difference? Still on the fence trying to decide what to run post seti. Also considering DPAD still.
 
Folding@Home researches protein folding, to better understand protein misfolding, which is believed to be the cause behind Alzheimers, Mad Cow disease, some cancer, and other diseases (some of which are mentioned on the Folding@Home website). Of course, our TeAm in F@H could always use some help... right now we're in 24th place (IIRC) and we're going to be dropping at least several places in the near future.

Distributed Folding probably does something similar, but I'm not familiar with it, so wait and I'm sure one of the DF people will fill you in with some info in a little bit. 🙂

but as i understand FaH and DF is this...
FaH studies the dynamics of proteins and how they fold.
DF actually folds proteins.
There is a lot of info in those two links provided.
Howard (DF creator) and team are very responsive to their users. They regularly post and respond to questions in the official forum.
 
F@H researches the possiblites of the proteins. DF reseraches the energy required to make the actual protein that affect us. There is supposedly a direct correlation between the energy and the strength in a particular protein. Once the strength of the energy has been figured can a possible cure be found based on the energy of the calucalted structures energy. The largest protein researched so far has been 156 structures. The more structures the higher the energy required for it to maintain its integrity. Once we know the strength possibly needed (computationally) can we find the possible cures.
 
im going to move 6 computers over as soon as the seti project moves to boinc. do any of you know if either f@h or df plan on using boinc as a platform? if so, im not running whichever one will be.
 
I believe there is plans for folding at home to use BOINC. I am not aware of any plans for DF to use BOINC.
 
I too promised to put my pc's to work on F@H after seti1's end. to compensate TeAm for helping us to take back our rightfull place in the world standings.

I don't see how Folding@Home could use the BOINC, because BOINC allows (even makes easy) the caching of WUs, and the very nature of the science behind the F@H project makes caching very detrimental.

Maybe they can use the BOINC platform without using the caching aspects of it??? I guess we'll find out... sometime.
