Folding@Home-upgrade question

I was looking at one of the computers in my feeble FAH "farm" today. It is running two instances of FAH console version, version 504. Looking online 6.23 is the latest version. Should I update this? If so, the instructions say to uninstall pre-6.23 versions first. How do I do this, and will I lose any work units in progress?

Computer info:

WinXP SP3
Athlon 62 X2 Dual
4000+
2.10 GHz
3.37. GB RAM

This is a work computer, on 24/7, rarely has intensive CPU usage but FAH CANNOT interfere with main uses when I need it (basically word processing, some database).

I would of thought with a dual core rig that you'd want the SMP client, IIRC it gives much points than the std client (even with x2 installs). Unless their's some problem with the SMP client that I'm missing? Anyone else?

Re WU, it's probably safer to finish it on the current client to avoid losing any work done.
Once the WU is finished then just use the normal un-install shortcuts, if any.

Btw guys, talking of the SMP client, I see it's been updated to v6.30, I'm on 6.29 atm, is their any major problems with the latest one?

Ah, I've just noticed this regarding the SMP client requirements:-

The system must have a recent dual core processor or better to run this client with the -smp switch in SMP mode. Four cores or more are strongly recommended. This means older single core processors cannot run this client with the -smp switch, and older dual cores will not meet the very short work unit deadlines. If after running this client with the -smp switch on an older dual or an older quad core system, and the client does not meet the work unit preferred deadline, please remove the -smp switch and run one or more instances of this client with CPU work units, and/or a GPU client.

Maybe your dualie is too slow for SMP?? sorry🙁
I suppose you could try it & see if it meets the deadline, if not just remove the smp switch.

I don't know if you should upgrade or not, but ...

If you don't want to lose any work, shut down the client and restart with the -oneunit flag. That will finish the current WU and close client.

To uninstall an old console client just delete the folder.
