No problem at all - I would very much prefer that my comp had submitted the results faster and earlier! ;)
Thanks for the welcome! It will be fun to race and to learn a new project! :D

Hmm I got a question to ask, how do I tranfer the work unit that was partially processed to another comp? It's on graphical client 5.03, so I wonder if I just need to tranfer the whole folding folder and put "-local" flag on it? I haven't tried it out, the only one I tried is tranfer the whole folder and run it in which it fails (the client downloads a new client and the unfinished work unit was trashed :( )

Copy the folder over to the other computer.

Download the CLI Console client into the folder.

Run the console client with the local flag (and the -oneunit flag if you don't want to get another WU)

Just finished my first QMD unit. 300 MB of ram is pretty tough for my laptop... how do I change the -adv flag back to no?

Yeah, the QMD uses ~300 MB for a short while at the beginning of the WU and then ~212 MB for the other ~95% of the WU. And it does take a while to free memory by paging out to disk when you want to use the computer. Although it should get better than double points!

To remove the -advmethods flag:

If you added it to the start up shortcut, right click the shortcut and select Properties and remove it from the Target textbox. If you didn't add the -forceasm flag before add it now.

If you chose -advmethods during config of Version 5.04 console, stop the client with Ctrl+C, make a new shortcut called Config, open Properties and at the end of what is in the Target textbox add the -local and -config or -configonly flag and run that shortcut to do another config and this time say no when you get to the advmethods question.

Any questions, please ask.

Just got my new work laptop up and running with F@H.
I recall the old d.net client having an option to pause work when running on battery power. Does F@H have such a feature?

Yes! It got added in Version 5 client, well the console client anyway.
EDIT: Option in config of the console, not sure about the GUI, look around should be somewhere.

Make sure you keep the air intake and fan areas clear of obstacles.

Gotcha. I'll let this WU finish with the GUI and install the console version next.

All you have to do is copy the CLI Console version into the same folder.

Stop the GUI, change the startup shortcut and run the console. Just make sure that both are not running at the same time.

I usually make a special config shortcut. In the Properties Target textbox at the end of what is in there add a space a dash and "local" without the quotes and another space and dash and "configonly" without the quotes.

Don't be afraid to use the 5.04beta console it is not really a beta. It has two new features: if you want the client to report to the Assignment Server less ram than you have you can - this will limit the WUs to those that will only use as much ram as you set. You can also set advmethods during config instead of adding it to the startup shortcut.

In case you didn't know v 5 can also be configured to run as a service!

Cool, looks like it's working. Is there any disadvantage to running the console client as a service on the laptop? Would I just need to use MMC to kill it if it freaks out or I want to let the laptop cool off?

Is it even necessary to make a clean exit since the client writes its checkpoint data to disk? What would the best time interval for checkpoint writes be?

Not sure about any disadvantages. I haven't run as a service yet. You can use MMC to stop the service.

I have messed up the WU by using Task Manager to stop F@H. It really should be shut down properly. With WinXP and NTFS it will usually recover nicely after a freeze up or crash or power outage, but not always. When you shutdown the computer, (without stopping the client), the client seems to shutdown OK and I imagine the service would shutdown OK too.
