Folding@Home question

I have read over the folding setup guides from this forum and LR. The link for the guides are here, here and here. There is one thing that I don't understand, and that is what to do with the removal from the AT guide.

It says: Removal- When you're almost done Folding, stop the service from the Services control panel in Administrative Tools. Then start the client up from a command prompt or shortcut with the -config flag, and then skip ahead until you get to when it asks if you wish to remove the service, select YES, otherwise you'll have a useless service floating around. Also, I'd add the -oneunit flag so that F@H only finishes the WU it's currently working on, and sends the results for it without downloading more work.

Does that mean removing the program from my computer? And if I turn my computer off overnight, it's usually better if I get work units without deadlines right?

"Once you've crunched your last WU, for the CLI just delete the folder, for the GUI, the normal uninstall works just fine. If you want to leave F@H installed but stop running it, run it with the -oneunit flag so it finishes the work it's on. Then remove the flag and disable the service. Then when you want to start back up, just enable the service and you'll be up and running again."

I don't really understand this, but from Rattle's response, it sounds like I can delete the files that were used for folding?

Sorry if there's any confusion but I don't know how to use the quote feature.

This is if you don't want to run Folding@Home for some time, example if you'll going on holiday and don't want to keep computer running, or want to stop running Folding@Home at all.
For normal shutdowns for night and so on, can just keep service running without doing anything special.

There haven't been any "timeless" wu's for some months now, and there's no current plans to add any more. The deadlines is so long that with your rig, 2 hours/day should AFAIK still be enough to meet the re-issue-deadlines.

Well, except for the new GPU and SMP-clients, that has much tighter deadlines...

Sorry if there's any confusion but I don't know how to use the quote feature.
No problem, and welcome to DC. :)

Sorry Rattle, but I didn't really understand the first part of your reply. The OP has been edited since I just re-read the F@H setup guide, and found out something that I don't really understand. It's about crunching my last WU.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will try to see how the quote feature works in my spare time.

Apparently had a small quoting-problem myself.

If don't want any more folding-wu's for some time, use the method indicated by stopping service, and running client with "-oneunit"-flag.

Sorry Rattle, but I still don't really understand.

"Removal- When you're almost done Folding, stop the service from the Services control panel in Administrative Tools. So that means if I'm going to stop running or never run F@H.

This relates to the removal of F@H right?

So if I run F@H for say 5 hours when I'm away. When I come back to the computer, I won't have to delete anything right because the F@H files are set up like temporary internet files?

Yes, the client saves it's progress to disk, default every 15 minutes, and continues from last "checkpoint".
You can safely shut-down computer whenever you want, and don't need to do anything with the folding-client.

Hmm, think I've got my F@H questions sorted out. Thanks Rattle. If I have anymore questions or problems, I will surely post again.
