Why do I get so many?

My 2124 & 2125 Projects

Just looking at the race between me and MadAmos, he had like half of what I got. They take so long to crunch. Is there something about my systems that they like to send the 2124 and 2125 WUs more to me?

Any insight? I'm not complaining or anything, just wondering how they determine who gets what.

I have not looked at the break down recently but I see what you mean and those nice 2414 600 pointers that I was getting probably made quite a difference. :D That being said my percentage of 2124 and 2125 (average 150 PPD) WU's is up and my point production shows it, I have 3 of them on right now :( . On the temporarily conscripted computer (2.4 GHz P4) that has to go back to my Brother-in-law at Christmas they take about 4 days. There is also a big difference between my 3.2 GHz E6400 and my 2.8 GHz D 915. I did get a run of 48 pointers that worked out well this week they finish up pretty quick and are a quick poits fix at aprox. 235 ppd.
Night if you want to compare some benchmarks give me a PM and let me know a few WU's that you are interested in and I will get you some info. I have been using FahMon for a while and I lke how it works now even more with the 2.1.5v out.

Amos

PS I just noticed you have made the top 200 and I thought that deserved a

Welcome to the "I hate ^%#$$%#@ 21xx Work Unit" club.

For a couple weeks that seemed like it was all I got. And then with no changes in what I do or how i'm set up, I started getting 1166 and 1167 Work Units

My PPD has better than doubled with the 116x series.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is much of anything you can do to pick which WUs you get. (The assignment servers do one for a few minutes, then another, then another and what type you get just depends on when your client asks.)

FWIW, I do have the -advmethods flag set and am reporting 1024MB on one machine and 2048MB on the other two. I answered YES to accepting large work units, but I'm not sure any of these settings really did anything to help.

F@H has so many great elements, but unfortunately a level playing field in terms of WU scoring is NOT one of them. I just try to accept this and not fight it too much. (Although I have in the past to no avail)

I OFFICIALLY JOIN THE CLUB TOO!!!

I have been getting them for 3 weeks straight! It dropped my PPD from my meager 280 with the 24xx 600p WUs to a now even more meager 50 with these stupid things.

I have -advmethods and the large WU option on. When i take them off, i always get 18xx 153 pointers. Which, are actually better than these 21xx 's

Just some info for those that might not know:

These WUs will be done and then there will be others, maybe better, to fold. There have been some like this in the past and I suppose there will be some in the future. Remember that these are not Bonus WUs, so you shouldn't compare them to Bonus WUs.

To have a chance at getting Bonus WUs you have to configure the client for >5MB download = yes.

I think all Bonus WUs use lots of ram, so you probably need 256MB and probably 512 for some. You probably can't get them if you have set the client's ram setting lower.

They give a bonus on those WUs that use more resources than is normal for a DC project.
Resources like, more memory usage, more memory bandwidth usage, more internet bandwidth usage.

A DGromacs core WU uses double precision math and they benchmark those WUs without SSE2/3. So they give better PPD if your computer has SSE2/3.

Also, a large point non-bonus WU takes a long time to finish and can affect your PPD average in the short term, but should average out normal in the end.

For those people with newer hardware, some WUs run much better than on the benchmark P4@2.8 computer. So you will see even bigger discrepancies than if you had a benchmark-like computer.

What kind of hardware will you be using to get that 2500?

I might have to pick up Linux again - it's been like 10 years  I hear installation is easier now-a-days?

the 2500 is actually from two boxes... a x2 @ 2.7ghz and an e6300 @ 3.2ghz. the e6300 accounting for around 1600PPD and x2 around 1000 PPD :) my x2 may actually have a bit higher yield once i get my mobo in on monday... from what i've read the first gen of WU's and core didn't utilize both cores as much as the current ones

ubuntu is the easiest thing in the world to do... quicker to install than windows and FREEEE. Just need to make sure your hardware is linux friendly first though and the install will take care of the rest. any questions... just ask :)

speaking of.. i should probably update the SMP thread...
