Folding@Home: Making progress on GPU client

April 2006 We and our collaborators have submitted our first folding on GPU papers to the Supercomputing 2006 meeting. The results will be publically available at a later date. We are now working to refine the algorithms as well as make the code suitable for running on FAH. One of the big challenges for FAH deployment will be the differences in drivers on donors machines. However, we now have a plan for this and so we are starting to make plans for porting to FAH. We note that the port may take a while to debug (and we will want to do a great deal of internal testing before releasing such a different type of port).

Also on the same page but in the BOINC section:
April 2006 We have updated much of the code, but are now in the midst of dealing with staff turnover in the BOINC part of the development team, which has slowed development.

While this is unfortunate in that I would have to upgrade my video card, I am pleased to see that they're making progress in getting FAH to run on GPUs. Thanks for posting the news, Gleem. 😎

 Thanks, GLeeM, for the info!

🙁 I am sure I will not be able to take advantage of this when this becomes available for F@H since I am still doing AGP / mobos combos for my crunching boxes and my current financial situation precludes any new upgrades (which would include not only the PCI-x vid cards, but also the mobo & mem upgrades to boot!) 🙁

 I can only hope that F@H will also try to work with those PCI Accelerator cards (Clear Speed, Asustek PhysXP1 & BFG PhysX) that may/will be on the market - giving us poor AGP crippled crunchers a cheaper alternative to da big boys. 😎
