Thanks so much GleeM!!!

However, I have an issue between one of the FAHcores and my machine.

I have had a number of issues with FahCore_65, more specifically with p1136_p1130_L939_K12M_335K

It seems that every time when my machine fold this protein in Linux, about 50% of the time it causes my machine to hang. The dual DC opteron in my sig does not usually behave this way running any other applications, or running any other FAH core for that matter. I have tried to trouble shoot hardware issues, testing memory, testing CPU cores under load with other programs, adjusting BIOS settings, etc. But nothing has helped. Memtest came out perfect, other programs all run fine in Fedora.

It's still possible that it's some type of hardware issue, but FahCore_65 folding this protein is the only program that would cause the Linux OS to hang (Windows does that once in a while, but that's just MS, what can you say); so it's very possible that there is some type of incompatibilty issue between my machine and this core, or X86_64 Fedora with this core, I just don't know.

I will continue to investigate, and try to see if there is some explanation with HW or OS; maybe something on that front will come up. In the past, I was able to manage, since this particular protein comes up only couple of time a week. But in the last several days, F@H has been giving me only this WU, so now my system literally hangs on the hour when I try to run F@H. And in the last 48 hours, my machine has hung no less than a dozen times, and yet FAH keeps giving me this workunit.

So, if I can't find issues with HW and such, I'm not sure that I will be able to continue to participate in F@H :( Maybe there is some type of compatibility issue between certain WUs in FAH and AMD64 Linux??)

So in case I can no longer participate, thanks for all the encouragement from the TeAmmates, and especially GleeM.

Let me be the first of probably many to say "Of Course!" to AMDnewbie2006. Anyone who puts the number 198 in the team box is a memeber of TeAm Anandtech no matter what forums you choose to peruse. And a big WELCOME to ya! :D

thanks mate :)

two thumbs up on your new rig btw, maybe in another year or so after my wife and I find a house we'd like to buy and settle into our mortgage payments, I may be able to add a couple dual cores in the mix, but I'll have to settle for 2nd hand parts in the F/S forums and 20 dollar cases w/ nice PS from isellsurplus.com until then.

If it wasn't for the F/S forums, I wouldn't have about 1/3 of the power that I currently have :)
