Thanks GLeeM!

Congrats to all, welcome to the TeAm, and keep folding people!

I MADE 300,000 (and Top 100). I am happy with myself considering I started again less than a month ago from around 150,000 or so. I should add a few more computers...

Oh, and I wish I could borg at my new job.... There's like 50 Mac Pro's and 10 Xserves.... damn.

w00t. My desk at the office just got bumped from a P4/2.4GHz to a Core2/3.2ghz. 🙂 Uniprocessor clients, though. It'll miss SMP deadlines on the weekends.

Great job everyone!🙂

great job everyone! looks like we've added some big guns. . . .

lol- pc raincoats  not a bad idea considering i've had to leave my windows and doors open so i don't suffocate in the heat. . . .it's so damp & sticky inside my house i'm worried my comps won't boot up once power is restored.

eager to get back in the "fold,"

Mark_FW guilted me into running fah again.😉

I'm running 100% linux now so to get the GPU2 client running it took me 5 hours this morning.

Also running 1xSMP on the same machine

Not sure of total ppd yet since I'm trying to get fahmon running on linux.

Edit: Stopped the smp client (no patience for this until the race in December)

4800 ppd on GT8000 (64bit linux/wine)🙂

Way to go ! what cpu are you running ? If a quad, you can run am smp client also, and get better ppd.

For now, I'll just stick with the GPU client. It's a Q6600 B3 @3GHZ w/DDR2 667 RAM and it's running hot so I need a better heatsink. Malariacontrol runs cool so that's what I'm running on the 4 cores right now.

My wife is on a very aggressive money saving stint right now but eventually I'll get a good heatsink and upgrade the RAM to DDR2 800 so I can clock it up a bit more!😉

Any way we (I'm sure there's a few more of us) could get you, all-mighty biodoc, to write a how-to-get-the-GPU-client-working-with-wine guide for us? 🙂

Flattery will get you nowhere!😉

A guide would be difficult for me to write since different distros will have some differences.

What distro/version are you running & do you have CUDA installed yet?

I'm running Ubuntu Hardy 8.04. Installing CUDA on the most recent distros are more difficult since there are no package installations yet at nvidia.

What a coincidence. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS

EDIT: I'm currently upgrading to a 9800GX2 and Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit so I can run SMP. Probably not going to start folding for a month or so.

You didn't even hint as to what you got......

So ?

LOL

OOPS 😱

It's two of these!

For $164 each (after rebate) I couldn't resist. OK..... I didn't really try.

Probably have to beef up the PSUs because these will run in the Quads that already have 8800GTS (G92) in them.

You're safe by a mile Mark, but sniderhouse (who is this anyway?) is goin down.

It does.

I don't know too much about it. Over at the fah forums I've seen posts where people were asking how to get both cores running, and some where they had trouble getting the second core to run at full speed.

I don't know if those were just a couple isolated people having trouble of if the card/driver is problematic.

too rich for my blood. I had to scrape to get the gtx+

How much better will the GTX+ do than a GT? Like here.

I only have 8800GTS cards (one NV80, 640MB and two G92, 512MB)

I don't think the 8800GT can keep up with the NV80 GTS (4400 PPD) and I am reasonably sure it can't touch the G92 performance (5400 PPD). I am hopeful that the 9800GTX+ will exceed the G92 cards by 750PPD or so. (I'm expecting ~6000 PPD from the GTX+ card)

best I can do until I have one running. It's always hard to trust numbers posted in brag threads.

-Sid

(say a prayer for my power supplies. I don't know if they are up to running dual cards)

Edit: Sorry 😱 I didn't notice you were asking about the 9800GT. I have no idea how they do. I am guessing they are very similar except they don't use the 55nm process, so they are probably a little hotter. I think they are basically the same except the GTX+ is just a newer manufacturing process.

edit2: I'll put numbers up when I have them running. Hopefully that will be in just a few days (unless I have to buy new PSUs, then it will take longer while I save my pennies and get them ordered)

All I can say, is, no bragging, 8800GT@700 = 5300 PPS. 8800GTS @ 740 = 5300 PPD (in my case)

I have a couple of 8800GTs running 700MHz cores and each one of them produces 4800PPD..one is driven by an E7200@3.1GHz, the other by 3000+ socket 939 @ 2.0 GHz. Both cards are in the 85-87 seconds per step range.

I purchased a GTX 260 a couple of days ago that is producing 5760 PPD...core at 600MHz, 70-72 seconds per step.

Any way you look at it these cards perform very well.

The speed of your CPU will affect the PPD of the video card. But even so, t is weird that your GTS is getting the same PPD at 740 that mine are at 700. (700, linked shaders, 1000 memory)

I would have bought two more of the ASUS 8800GTS but they are priced pretty high (>$250.00) and difficult to find.
