We have a race! Night201 vs MadAmos

MadAmos - TeAm rank=346 - 24 hour avg=564 - Start Points=9,804 - Current Points=11,871
Night201 -- TeAm rank=365 - 24 hour avg=267 - Start Points=9,404 - Current Points=10,132

MadAmos leads by 1,739

I am now recommending that if you are doing BigWUs that you use the -advmethods flag.
There are some good WUs now, you can get some 600 pointers, some 14## series (364 pointers), and some decent DoubleGromacs. I think these will raise your points per day. Please discuss in future threads if you get better ppd.
Things can change so stay tuned for when you should remove the flag.

xbassman reported that he dropped ppd after he added the flag. I haven't seen any 14## series for two days and these were the best of the lot - really the reason I made my recommendation. If they don't start sending them again very soon I am going to remove my recommendation.

The TeAm is in 23rd place! :D

About bonus BigWUs: these WUs give double points because they use more resources - > 100MB memory and larger up/download. To have a chance at getting any of them you must answer yes to >5MB download in configuration.

Sorry about any slight name differences. Or errors.

Thanks to all who contributed - big and small :D
And thanks to those who are crunching a WU and will be on the list soon ;)

after i added the tag and checked the box, i got an 18xx WU (only 153 points). Does this not guarantee a bigger WU?

Actually that was before adding the flag.
I have since added -advmethods to all my local boxes and have yet to see any increase in PPD.

Maybe the good 600 pointers are done.
I am waiting to see what my boxes pick up using the flag.
I have gotten a few pretty good units, but none of the highest gaining ones.
All of the 600 pointers I am crunching right now are of the 24XX series.

-advmethods just gets you beta units, not necessarily any particular series.

There are no guarantees. Just a chance of getting a bonus WU.
Without answering yes to >5MB download you have no chance of getting a bonus WU.

The -advmethods flag says you are willing to accept WUs that may be slightly unstable. The Assignment Server will send you to a different set of WU servers (usually).

The reason I recommended the flag was because they moved from beta to -advmethods the good 149# WUs that gave better points per day (ppd) than even the 600 pointers. Some 600 pointers were also being given on -advmethods.
And the decent DoubleGromacs 99# are also on -advmethods.

It seems that lately there are no 149# being sent out. And very few 600 pointers. You should get at least half of the time the 99#.

I should warn that all of this information is from only my observations - of what I get and from watching the server status page.

Hey GLeeM,
Not really sure what you mean by 99# and 149#.
I looked up and down the FAH server page and didn't see anything that made since to me other than the server's status.

Care to elaborate? :p

BTW- using -advmethods my local boxes are crunching currently,

2409,2098,2124,2411,1815,2142,2414,2414.

The last 2414 was downloaded without the -adv flag. in about 45 minutes it will get another.

99# means projects 990 through 997. These are not bonus WUs but they are benchmarked without SSE2/3 so if your computer has SSE2/3 then you get a speed boost from that and they give better ppd than a regular WU.

149# would be 1495 and 1497, they are the ones that give best ppd, especially on the newer CPUs with larger L2 cache. Without these being sent via -advmethods there is probably no reason to use the flag.

The currently running projects can be seen here: http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummaryC.html

Congratulations to the MM's .

Thanks GLeeM.

Looks like my production fell off the table temporarily due to a workgroup switch that went quiet on me for some reason. I think Think I have it corrected.

Thanks for shedding some light on the situation there. That link is useful.. now I know the WU I'm crunching will get me about 400pts.. should be done tomorrow morning. I'll be hoping to get a 149series next.

Thanks for the stats as always. And congrats to all the MMs.
