Congratulations to the Milestone Makers today!

I've been reading that the newest beta client for 32-bit Windows SMP clients is released. While it's supposed to be less susceptable to network glitches, it is being reported as slower. I also got the feeling that some special attention to detail is required. ( ie: following the instructions carefully when installing it. ) Lastly, I read a couple posts that made it sound like running two instances takes a slightly different install method. (?)

I don't think I'm going to switch my clients at this time. If anyone does, please post and let us know what you think of it. (I'd especially like to hear if running two instances is still practical.... does affinity changer still help..... etc...)

-Sid

Thanks GLeeM!

(edit: @Slider76 I think blert said he is participating in the POEM@Home challenge )

Congrats MM's! TurtleBlue is kicking up some dust with that new Q6600!

Thanks GLeeM!😎

I may put a new box on the new client just to see what happens. I wonder about the PPD? I think they are making an error by increasing the technical difficulty of these clients. The easier they are to install and manage, the more people will successfully use them. I would be considering that they are assigning their most recent and important work to these units too.

Yup, still around, but only have one quad and one X2 Folding right now.... the rest of the arsenal are pointed at POEM, Malaria and quite a few other non-DC personal/work projects at this time, along with the fact I just gave away 4 of the Q6600 systems to family members who have a greater need for them than I do.
You'll see me pop back up to the top every now and then giving the big dogs cause to wrinkle a brow or two...erm, I mean contributing to the science of Folding...😉

Thanks for the stats GLeeM!

Crunch On!

From what I gather:
-Some people's frame times are a tiny bit slower. But its lack of crashing makes up for this 😉
-It consumes a bit more RAM. Running two instances will be harder at least for that reason.
-Some AMD X2 systems are refusing to run at all. Woo, betas!

Thanks for da stats, GLeeM!

Congrats to the MM's

Ahh...the joy & satisfaction of a recently built Q6600 box at a current O/C of 2.835Ghz
(bringing it up slowly) to aid in our team's efforts on F@H.

Now, just need to try SMP on the 1.9Ghz Brisbain duocore and see if it takes this time - currently using 1 core for F@H and the other one is assisting the ATI 1950Pro Video card while it works on the graphical F@H work units. If it takes, will re-use card to upgrade my main Tower which is 5+years young (running 24/7) since a couple of the caps are oozing some brown stuff - pc still works but it's a bit slower (3.04GHz P4 northwood) than my 2.4Ghz P4 Northwood box - a budget build since I spent some clams on the Quad box - now, let me see...let me see...hmm AMD or Intel duo core?????

Turtleblue

800k-its taken me a long time to get here-over four years. I don't have any modern processors in my "fleet"-the best is an Athlon 64 X2 2.1 GHz, but they are mostly on 24/7/365. My daily average PPD is presently 535, less than half the groups average.

Hopefully folding@home will result in some real beneficial scientific advances, which is the main reason I'm here.

Thanks for sticking with us! It wasn't too long ago when I was folding with just a few boxes and getting to 1,000 ppd was a struggle.

I think that science will benefit from our combined work, otherwise I wouldn't be here.

Thanks again,

Gravity
