F@H released from beta testing two new BigWUs!!!!!

They are available for all processors.

p1164 and p1165, worth 574 points and 622 points.

These are double point WUs because of the size of the down/up load (3 MB and 5 MB), and the memory used (~110 MB).

Your client must be configured to accept >5MB download.

Give them a try!

I am getting 268 points per day (ppd) on a p1165 on my P4 3.0@3.3 when running it alone.

When I run two clients on this HT processor, I get 167 ppd on the p1165 and 167 ppd on a p1164 for a total of 334 ppd

Welcome to the TeAm, Axoliien :) If you have any questions or need any help, just ask.

Hmm. This 2 client on 1 HT processor has me intrigued. Care to explain the setup?

To set up two clients on a system, whether multi-core or HT (multi-thread, sort of), it is best to use two CLI clients. You could also choose one CLI and one GUI, but I don't know how to do that; two GUI clients can not be used together.

To implement this, you need to make separate folders for each client. If you're currently running one CLI, copy only the Folding@Home executable over to your new folder. Then, when you run each one (with "fahconsole.exe -configonly"), say yes to advanced options, and make sure that each client has a unique Machine ID (e.g. 1 and 2).

I also recommend setting them to run as a service so they work while no one's logged in, and so they don't clutter the taskbar. If you want to keep an eye on their operation, there are many third party programs that can monitor F@H clients; if you're interested, I know many of our fellow team members use them, so they'd be glad to recommend some for you to try.

The bonus WUs I mentioned make the increase in ppd by running two clients on HT seem greater than normal because those WUs are worth double normal WUs.

HT usually only gives a small increase in ppd. This small increase may not be worth the extra heat generated, extra electricity used, or any slowness in your use of the computer.

Hmm, ok. I still have a day or 2 before I make the decision to do this because of the large WU one of my P4s is working on right now. Possibly I'll just leave it as-is if there is so signifigant gains.

Don't let me discourage you from trying two clients. Depending on the computer your mileage may vary :)

I just didn't want you to be disappointed if you don't see as big of an increase as I had with two bonus BigWUs.

Speaking of which, the BigWUs are still being sent out, but now that their number is down to the minimum they only go out after enough get returned to put that minimum above the set amount.
