I think we might need more log (not unlike more cowbell) but it may be that your client is doing NO work and just cycling through the process of ending the unit, perhaps due to an unstable machine or other error. Do you see sections of the log that show completed work? Here is an example:

Something is wrong there for sure Cheex, it shows your client crapping out before it even does any work. First thing is to make sure you have CUDA drivers, should be 177.35 or newer Nvidia drivers.

Thanks, I'll get right on it. That is exactly what the problem is.

Downloading 177.35 right now...will update here later.

Okay guys all seems to be running now.

I'M CRUNCHING!!! WOOT!!!

I now genuinely feel like part of the TeAm (and the solution).

😀

Feels good when everything works out the way you want it to.

Congrats and welcome to Team Anandtech! 🙂

I don't know if we're celebrating to early here guys.

I'm having an issue with BSoDs now. Video card driver is the culprit. It only started since i installed it.

Is there any way to limit the usage of the GPU to a percentage like you can with a CPU??

Good news: I completed my first full WU and got some points.

Bad news: I don't know if the BSODs are done.

If you are getting BSOD's or EUE's you may have to look at your overclocks a bit. FAH is pretty sensitive.

First just try a different driver, I'm using 177.70, seems to be OK.

GPU Z is also a nice little tool for monitoring. EVGA makes a precision tool for overclocking that is key to my GPU success. Cheex, google your card for overclocks and see what other people have been successful attaining. Then set yours a few ticks below that. It's important to take the fan off auto and keep your card around 70 degrees or cooler. Keep working on it, these are technically still beta programs and will cause you to invest some time on them.

Keep folding,

Gravity

Okay...

@ Cutthroat: I think I try using those 177.70 drivers. I'm using the 177.35 currently.

@ Gravity: I used to use RivaTuner until EVGA released Precision. I have maintained the same clocks for months now, 600/1500/1800, and I run my fan at 100% (doesn't really seem loud to me at all).
Temps while crunching hover at around 70C give or take maybe 2 degrees. Then again, while gaming it goes over 70 and that is for extended periods. So all in all I think my temps are fine. I'm just worried about driver stability, seeing as though the ARE beta drivers.

On the productivity side of things, I'm folding like crazy. Moved up 564 places in the TeAm since yesterday.

Yah you will move up faster the first couple weeks..you are passing people who are inactive or don't contribute a lot. At my current rate, and current addiction to buying a new CPU and GPU every 6 months I will be in top 10 soon maybe. 😛

I figured as much. At least I'm really crunching now though. Haven't had any more BSODs either and I just hope it stays that way. 😀

If you keep it up you'll be in the top 200 very quickly, where I'm currently trudging. There are plenty of inactives even here, sadly, but it's fun seeing your rank go up. Every time I pass someone and see it'll take longer for the next conquest I want to overclock even more... argh.

Shortass, what are your average PPD with your HD 4850? I am planning on getting a 4870 within the next 2 weeks and I would like to know from the folders how well the ati cards do.

I actually haven't started GPU folding yet... currently running dual SMP clients. Between scary heating issues with the 4850 (I haven't profile modded yet and I bought one of the initial batch) and early reports of only somewhat decent PPD I'm going the lazy route. I think I'm waiting for myself to install some new fans in my computer before I try gpu folding... should be about a week or so. If I get it running soon I'll report on PPD and such, but sometimes my lazy knows no bounds.

Drsignguy

I had a 4850 briefly that I crunched with and saw ~2,000 ppd stock and 2,400 ppd at 700Mhz (core).

Shortass

Just use the Overdrive html hack to adjust your card's speed to around 45% and you're good to go. Temps while folding will run 60-70C which isn't a problem at all for these cards.

Hmmmm, I am just wondering how much better the 4870 would be compared to my 3870 when it comes to PPD. The 4850 ( as you posted ) is about the same productivity as my 3870 as of now? I can get somewhere between 1900+ to 2500+ PPD depending on the project. Or whould it be a better choice to run the Nvidia cards.

Is it only the core clock speed that really affects the crunching or so does memory clock?
I know definitely not shader clocks...😀
