Thanks for the stats GLeeM.

Congrats to the MM's.

The SMP client on one of my machines borked itself the other day and of course I lost the unit at 95%. I ran into a deadline issue when I reinstalled the client last night. Missed it by 6 hours or something. The client hung for some 14 hours before I noticed it. Oh well.

My hate/hate relationship continues with this client. Oddities, errors and beta behaviors when I'm trying to contribute have been more than frustrating. Hopefully standford will do something with the client before it expires in Aug.

Keep folding,

Gravity

I am getting a bunch of 3060 units, and my PPD had taken a dive. On the exact same machine my ppd goes from 2200 to 1300. I hate them.

Just curious what you do that requires you have so many rigs nearby, and who pays the electric bill :)

Same question for Gravity, GleeM, and the other big folders around here.

Sorry, I can't talk about my work. I have several boxes at home that fold. I support them with lunch money.

I've had 2xsmp running on 64bit ubuntu linux for 2 months now with no problems (Q6600).

If you have a dedicated crunching box and no needs for printing, sound, etc, give it a try.

I posted instructions for setting it up here

If you have an ATI video card, it could be a real problem though.

@3.24 GHz it gives 4400 ppd with 2653 WUs.

It's much more stable than running on Windows Vista. (I don't have experience with XP).

Check my ppd on the stats for the last few weeks. That's one Q6600@3.24 GHz.

Cheers!

Small home network (server, two kids PC's, and one for the adults). Plus, since I work at a small community bank, I've been able to commandeer a handful of PC's there as well. Throw in my parents' PC, and those of a few friends who are kind enough to help out, and it makes a small fleet...though it is an aging one now, as my daily ranking has been slowly slipping over the past 12 months. These crazy kids today and all those new-fangled quad-core thingies they seem to be gettin'...makes me jealous I tell ya...

I'm not sure I really qualify as a big cruncher, but I've got two PCs at home. I've just recently upgraded them to Quads (OC'd of course) One is my regular PC and the other began it's life as a HTPC, but now really doesn't do the DVR thing since I switched over to HD cable with it's own DVR. But it does a nice job of piping music from the stash on my regular PC into the home theater.... and folding dual SMPs! ;)

A third PC crunches for me that used to be here at home. It's an Opteron that is with my son at college. I put two instances of the CLI client on it so it can run as a service and doesn't require any babysitting.

The Quads total between 8750 and 8800 PPD on windows XP with the affinity changer (we no longer need Linux for the higher PPD, but it is more stable)

The Opteron only gets ~350 PPD (with a single SMP it got 1,100 PPD)

-Sid

Yes, you do!

I think he got me mixed up with all you high point crunchers

Have you looked at my average lately. I am not even in the Top 30 anymore :( I lost my PS3 :(
And no bonus WUs lately
I am waaaaay down!

PS: PS3 will be back in a few weeks hopefully.

For those of us who live in cold climates, the heat generated by the computers is not wasted.

I pay $3.50 a gallon for home heating oil and that bill dwarfs my electric bill!;)

I'm not a big cruncher but I have 3 Q6600's and they give a lot of bang for the buck.

They only have a modest effect on my electricity bill but they do crank a lot of points for science.:p

I see. So we have Gravity working for the NSA (no such agency) :)

and a few enthusiasts.

I am a graduate student pursuing a PhD in chemical engineering. We have a few computers over here and I'm running my signature rig and PS3 at home.

Just was interested, that's all. Still curious about the top 10 or so crunchers... where does one obtain 40-50 CPUs ?? Without powering your home with solar...

AH.... F@H is why I have so many... Not to mention the lan parties for my son's friends.

Of course I pay the electric bills in my house. I don't think my son would like to pay ;)

Hey Mark, he must be writing about me, huh?

I'm a teacher. In my "spare" time, I teach kids how to build computers. I funded the construction of a computer lab in my classroom: 1 to 1 computers, a server, etc. That totals 34 right there. I figure, if I pay for it, build it, and maintain it (for the kids), my boss can float the electricity. Among other things, the little ruggers do math/statistic exercises using Folding and SuperPi. A lot of them hang out in the room at lunch, too. More fun.

At home, 4 quads, an E6750, and an old P4 2.8g. That's about it. Humble farm.

Cheers,
MM
