Thanks Gleem !

I got a bunch of 3060 units, so my PPD has dropped 3000, I hate those things....

Do the 3060 WUs only come to the Linux SMP clients? I haven't seen anything except 2653 for weeks on WXP

I have had them on both.

What flags are you using when you start your SMP clients?

I'm presently using: "C:\Folding SMP 2\fah.exe" -local -forceasm -verbosity 9

I don't use all the flags but different ones for each client. That way the shortcuts in the startup menu don't get confused.

Example: Instance one fah.exe -local
Instance two fah.exe -verbosity 9

That's what I've got working for me here.

How F@H makes it's WU assignments is kept a mystery by the project developers, but it would be interesting to know if the choice of flags I am using is why I am only getting the 2653 flavor. (which is fine with me ;) )

-Sid

edit: I also answered yes when asked about setting the -advmethods flag in the configuration of each client. I know they say that -forceasm and -advmethods have no affect on the SMP, but I am wondering if maybe they actually do since I am getting a different mix of WUs than you are.

I've gotten, with no advmethods flag, both 3060 & 2653, mostly 2653 though. Too bad because 3060 does a few percent better on my old dual Xeon.

I think maybe the few times I've gotten 3060 the 2653 server was down or very busy?

All of my machines are getting 2451 and 2453s. My guess was that either the original Preferred Deadline for these units has passed and they're reassigning WUs, or they've simply decided to prioritize finishing these projects. (They've stated that they can tell the servers to "prefer" projects.)

Oh Oh! Warning! After you get curious you are on your way to becoming a hardcore tweaker ;)

What Foxery was refering to with Preferred Deadline is that all WUs have two deadlines. Stanford only sends out one of each WU, but after the Preferred Deadline is reached they will send it to another computer. The second deadline is the Final Deadline, after this you will not get any points.

This page shows deadlines and more for each project.

The "high performance" clients have very short deadlines so that projects can complete in a fraction of the time of regular projects. Thus they get better PPD.

Er, I didn't realize before that you guys were naming SMP projects. My machines just run uniprocessor clients, but are also seeing repeats.

I'll also throw in the suggestion that perhaps some of the larger/higher performance projects are almost finished, so now we're helping out ones that had fallen behind before they send out a new batch.

/shrug

Hell, we could go the optimistic route, and fantasize that they are wrapping up old projects in preparation for updated clients :p
