[GLeeM]

A little information about the new SMP client for Windows:
It uses up to four cores/CPUs so instead of many regular clients all you need is one.
BUT, it is a high performance client, so the deadlines are very short. It will run on a dual core system, but if it is not a newer system and run 24/7, it may not finish the WU in time to get points or do any useful science.

Even though these new high performance clients do lots of science quickly they don't do all types of calculations and so the regular client is still needed and does valuable science.

Anyone know the average time window for when the SMP client has to finish a unit?

I think most of them are either 3 or 4 days.

A reasonable PC running half-time can usually do it.

If you have a c2d you'll be fine. But if you have a lower powered AMD you may want to keep a close watch to make sure you'll meet deadlines. These winsmp WUs are beasts.

I think you're underestimating X2 systems... even a 3800+ can knock these SMP WUs off... no sweat

I just finished a p2651 on my wifes computer (AM2 X2 3800, 1024 MB) and it was taking 31 min/frame. Thats a little over 2 days I can't get the smp client to run reliably at all on my main rig so no numbers on that

Good to hear. I am running a 4200+ with 2GB ram. I have a very slight overclock going (only an extra 157mhz).
