Thanks for da Stats, GLeeM!

Congrats to the MM's😎 (which includes 😱me😱 as I reached the 600k plateau)

Well, will be reconfiguring folding on my Intel Q6600 box today from :thumbsup:Insidious's:beer: 2 SMP setup as well as running GPU2 on it's Gigabyte 3870 Vid card to:

Single SMP (2 cores)
Single F@H (1 core)
Single GPU2 (1 core)

Since I noticed a drop in weekly point average from 38k to under 30k when I tried to involve the GPU2 when the beta came out recently. It will be longer to find a solution as to the Quad box inability to stay stable at 2.8ghz o/c and above😕 - just not a regular o/c'er - busy with real life issues to devote much time to this mystery.

TurtleBlue

TurtleBlue, which OS? SMP+GPU2 play nicely on my WinXP box when you set SMP to "idle" priority and GPU2 to "low" priority, but Vista boxes don't handle this as well. (On mine, SMP gets 3 cores and GPU2 has the 4th dedicated to it at all times.)

Congrats to the MM's!!

@TurtleBlue: Make sure you use the (older) Version 5.91 SMP client for that setup... not the newer beta (5.92).

Check!

Quad Box:
- Intel Q6600 G0 Stepping @ 2.784ghz @38c temps
- Zalman 9700 cpu fan (at max speed)
- Gigabyte EP35c-DS3R Mobo (Intel P35 chipset)
- 8gb DDR2 ram @ 5cas (CORSAIR XMS2 5T)
- Gigabyte 3870 (single-core) video card @60c temps
- 250gb Seagate perpendicular SATA 3.0 drive
- SATA DVD burner
- Antec 900 Midtower case
- OCZ GameXStream 600w PSU

Visual Display:
- Acer 22" LCD (connected via a 4-port VGA (3 other boxes connected as well) Raritan KVM switchbox

F@H stats on the Quad Box:

SMP 5.91 Client (2 cores): 33minutes/segment
F@H 5.04 Client: 15 1/2 minutes/segment
GPU2 Client: 1 minute, 6 seconds/segment - 19 compleated so far since implimentation last week.

My Oldest box (Intel p4 3.06 Norwood 5+years 24/7) has 2 caps erupting brown stuff (intel mobo) and is slower than the 2.4ghz norwood box currently...hmm...Fry has the Q6600 for $179...all I need is a new mobo, use up 4gb's of the CORSAIR memory from the Quad box (stats show box is using less than 2gb of ram) another SATA drive, another one of those 3870 gpu's and a SATA dvd drive...use the xp2 o/c and the box & power is the same as the Quad box...hmm......

I'm not even sure it'll work. I was just going to try it on a single comp in one of the labs, and then wait a week or two to see if it's still running.

hmm...you know, when I finally was able to do Insidious's 2 SMP's on a Quad build setup they were crunching segments at 14 minutes per...I started this configuration last night so now that you mention this it does seem disturbing...when that client is done I will halt the process and post the updated times for the single SMP and the GPU2 processes. My neurons must have gotten smashed when I had that keg from celebrating my 600k points.😕

Thanks GLeeM!

These are special labs for Digital System Design. It didn't work anyway, to add something as a service, I'd need to be logged in as admin.

Next step.... finding out the admin! 😛 JK, I don't want to be kicked out.

If you try some different combinations, you may be able to do more science (with the GPU2) and keep your ppd near what you had with two SMPs

What do you think Foxery? Do you have any ideas?

If two SMPs were crunching the 1760 point WUs at 14 min/frame, you were getting ~3620 ppd.

One SMP at 33 min/frame = ~768 ppd

If 1 min 6 sec GPU2 WUs were worth 97 points you were getting ~1270 ppd

I see there are some 1940 point GPU2 WUs now 🙂

They talked about maybe increasing point value on GPU2 WUs.
They are also trying to make the GPU2 use less CPU.

If they expect to get serious science done with GPU2 (meaning lots of people running it) they will have to make it equitable for people to run and to not lose points if they do.

I think the reason the GPU1 got such low points was because they did not want too many running it. If I read between the lines correctly, GPU1 was not giving accurate enough or reliable enough results. GPU1 did however give them the information they needed to make a good GPU2 (supposedly).

Oops! 😱

I mean there are some 1940 point GPU2 WUs in beta testing now.

EDIT: The following is from here:
"For now, we're pushing out villin WU's as a test (good to know that the code is working well), but we expect the larger WU's to be going out soon (say a week or two, pending internal testing)."

Ah, thought I was blind. I did see the two new projects for the GPU2 client, but they are also both only 97 points.

I'm done like 6 WUs now, and alot of the ones i've finished on the 14th, 13th, etc. didn't show up on those lists, so...

are these completely accurate? i mean, i'm just curious,
i don't rly care if my name is there or not

Here are your stats from EOC.

You have done four WUs.

It shows that you had one on the 14th. (if you sent results on the 13th also maybe it was past the deadline? Or on a computer without your name and team number?)

I did stats that day, but I do 24 hour stats from 8pm to 8pm or something like that.

You probably sent it in after that and I was at a friends' Ordination on the 15th so did not do stats that day. Sorry I missed it!

- Memory Utilization: 1.66GB of 8.4GB Total
- (1)SMP Client & (1) GPU2 Client Active

After a few frames of the GPU2 Client there does not seem to be any change time-wize from prior to shutting down the F@H 5.04 client to after (now compleating a frame every 1min, 15sec)

The Single SMP client is a different kettle of fish! The 2 frames after the 5.04 client shutdown went from 33min to about 22min. When the GPU2 Client has finished with its current work segment, I will also shut it down and see how the SMP responds to crunching on its own...

To be continued...

Shutting down the 5.04 client gave the SMP 384 ppd more.

What project was the 5.04 crunching at 15.5 min/frame?

are these completely accurate? i mean, i'm just curious,
i don't rly care if my name is there or not

Here are your stats from EOC.

You have done four WUs.

It shows that you had one on the 14th. (if you sent results on the 13th also maybe it was past the deadline? Or on a computer without your name and team number?)

I did stats that day, but I do 24 hour stats from 8pm to 8pm or something like that.

You probably sent it in after that and I was at a friends' Ordination on the 15th so did not do stats that day. Sorry I missed it!

hmm, haha, it seems i made several anonymous WUs.... thats what i get for reinstalling and not reconfiguring everything....

EDIT: ty for the info

Project 2452 (Run 155, clone 32, Gen 7)

PS: The SMP's last frame is a little under 20min.

You can get the current WUs points credited to you. Just stop the client and configure.

The 5.04 client was giving you 226 ppd.

At 20 min/frame you are now getting 500 ppd more.
