Thanks for the stats, GLeeM! :D
Congrats to the milestone makers and climbers!

It certainly looks good. I remember the time (last autumn) when the TeAm produced some 180 000 - 190 000 points per day. Now the production is 40 000 - 50 000 points more. :sun:

Thanks for the stats Gleem!

I cannot tell you how much I continue to loathe the smp client. These boxes require so much baby sitting it's not funny.

Keep folding,

Periodically I get these 2619 Wu's that are worth 1620 points and run the SMP gromacs CVS core. When running with a 2653 WU (SMP gromacs core) on a Q6600 (2XSMP), my ppd drops from 4400 to 3400. Anyone else seen this? The 2 different gromacs cores don't seem to play very well with each other!

cheers!

I've been getting a few different WUs too. (still mostly 2653)

306x series. They use the same core (FahCore_a1.exe), but are scored such that my PPD drops. On a single core, where I was getting ~2275PPD with a 2653, I see my PPD reduced to between 1750 and 1950 depending on the particular WU.

I was killing the 3xxx series off when I found them, partly because the early ones didn't seem to finish and partly because of these rather steep PPD reductions. But lately, I've been letting the run since they all seem to finish OK.

Biodoc, did you 'upgrade' to the 5.92 version of the client? or are the WUs you mention restricted to the Linux machines (I'm on WXP). I haven't seen any of the ones you describe.

Sid, I don't recall seeing these WU's before. They run fahcore_a2 (SMP Gromacs CVS).

I'm still running linux and they finish ok but these WU's run significantly slower when paired with the 2653's on the same machine (2xsmp).

I guess I could stop the 2653 and check the step time of the 2619's to see if the 2a core performance improves dramatically. Actually, I think I'll do that now.

Ok here's the deal:

Q6600@3.24 GHz 64 bit linux unbuntu

2XSMP w/ 2653 Wu's (4271 ppd)

11 min 27 step times

1xSMP 2653 Wu

7 min 24 sec step time

1xSMP 2619 Wu (fahcore_2a; SMP Gromacs CVS)

9 min 5 sec step time

2XSMP (2619 & 2653 Wu's 2xSMP) (3400 ppd)

2619 step time = 17 min 1sec:shocked:
2653 step time = 14 min 41 sec step time:shocked:

Ah well, such is science!

Well, I just got 5, count em 5 of the 30xx units that suck at ppd. 1500 instead of 2200 each. My overall PPD dropped by 3400 or almost an entire quad being missing. And for some reason, the same machines can;t transmit their work units.

Some days it makes me want to go back to BOINC.

Right now there are 462.

Probably when there are less than 200 WUs available the Assignment Server will not send any clients to it.

I'm back to all 2653's now; I've only seen 2 of the 2619 Wu's. I guess it's obvious they do need to move on to new projects and new WU's to push the science ahead!

The scoring does seem random though. Perhaps there's a local pub near Stanford U. where they have a couple of pints and throw darts to determine points for a new WU.

Sounds reasonable to me!;)

Edit: another mistake; I'm beginning to think I have early alzheimers!

QFMFT. I only have 4 smp clients running and they are a pita. Especially the 2 on XP. The 2 on vista x64 seems to behave 10x better.
