just for the fun of it i set my pc time ahead to see when the current version was set to expire...I set it to feb 31 and the client would not open. So I rolled it back to feb 1st, still no luck. So I'm guessing that at midnight the current version expires and there is no new version available yet.

So in the meantime, unless the client shuts down you should be ok. If you need to get it running to finish a work unit, just roll back your system clock.

Heres to the next version :wine:

EDIT: New version available at folding@home site!

I wonder what are the changes?

Btw the 'GPU Client GUI version' hasn't been updated yet

so many clients.....

This isn't the SMPclient, right? It's like, the update to the 5.04 console that I have been running for years?

This is the one that requires a 33 digit code? PITA?

I think you can just take the fah.exe file from the new download, replace the old one in your SMP folder(s) and go on with it.

not certain of that though... give me 20 and I'll have an answer for sure on the Windows SMP.

Winzip can't unzip the .exe file for the WinblowsXP SMP install, so that is out.

So I re-booted winblows to stop my clients.... then on re-boot:

I just double-clicked it and said yes when it asked to uninstall previous version (it didn't remove the client.cfg or work files, so no passcode was needed and no work was lost.)

then after required re-boot, I double-cllicked it again and it gave me the same message about uninstalling previous version...(huh? just did that? ) I said NO this time.

then went to the SMP directory, ran install.bat, then used my same old shortcut to start fah.exe with switches and it's running OK.

Jeeze, I'd hate to be trying this with remote machines..... but I guess that's why you guys get the big bucks :p :D

I guess that means all the boxes I set up to fold this week will be doing nothing this weekend. I'm really starting to hate this shit.

v5.04 clients are still fine, though... if you haven't upgraded to 6, don't bother on machines that aren't easy to change.

I hear ya Gravity! :|

The good news is that the client won't stop on it's own. It just won't start up after it's expired.

I've got all of mine done now. The final result was that I only had to (after re-starting windows to stop the SMP clients) double-click the new installation file, say no to uninstalling previous versions, be sure the install pointed to the right directory and then it was done. No need to run install.bat again or anything else. Just do the install, then start it as you always did. No work or configuration is deleted.
