Ok, I have three clients running but I have some questions. Background & issues first.

First off, for some reason Windows seems to think I have an 8800GS, a 9600GSO and a 9600GT instead of 2x8800GS & 1x9600GSO. Rivatuner & GPU-Z also take this view of the three cards' identities. And I'm getting significantly lower ppd than I would expect from this setup. 9000 total according to Fahmon: 4k from gpu1 ("9600GT"), 3k from gpu2 (8800GS) and 2k from gpu3 (9600GSO).

Second, rivatuner cannot make any adjustments to the 2nd & 3rd cards in the system. The first slot card shows up as 9600GT clocked at 700 core. The other two show up named right but just shows NA under core/memory settings and won't detect anything else; cannot OC these two cards at all therefore (and I know both will do 700 core for a nice boost in ppd).

Now the questions.
1) Why would one of the cards be mistaken completely as a 9600GT? Any way to remedy this problem?
2) Why won't rivatuner correctly identify any of the three cards? & why won't it OC the two that are at least names correctly?
3) Any difference in ppd when using these cards on x4 instead of x16 PCIe slot? The first two slots on this board are x16 but the last two are only x4.
4) Anyone else here do several GPUs in one box like this?

Any advice is appreciated!

I don't run Vista, so I may be waaay off base, but here's a couple ideas from stuff I've read along the way. (please take these with a grain of salt)

1. Do you have dummy plugs in video cards with no monitor actually connected?
2. Did you extend the windows deaktop to the cards with no monitor acutally connected?
3. Have you tried re-arranging which card is in which slot.
4. Have you tried uninstalling all of your video drivers and then re-installing the latest driver from Nvidia?

4a. With all drivers uninstalled, the install with the new driver should work by doubl-clicking the downloaded driver file once. (all 3 cards should be detected and drivers installed in a single pass.)

5. Windows Vista auto update will try and replace your video drivers with a set that is not CUDA enabled. Be sure not to allow that.

6. Try one card at a time (physically remove two from the PC) and see if each gets inistalled correctly. Then if so, add one more card to the PC. Maybe this will help point to where the installation process is failing.

I hope this helps. (Please forgive if it turns out I am FoS)

1) No, I have each card plugged into a monitor (my 2709W has lots of inputs).

2) Two secondary cards extended onto desktop, otherwise the clients wouldn't start.

3) Good idea, will try tonight.

5) Out of order. I think this is what happened, I installed driver (178.24) for the first card with only it installed and then let Windows install the drives for the second two once they were physically inserted. It was at this point that things got a little crazy and a "9600GT" showed up in the system.

4/4a) I used this copy of Windows briefly on an HTPC with a 9600GT. I simply moved the hdd and reactivated so that may have caused some of the problems (along with #5 above). I think tonight I will do a full Driver Cleaner wipe of all drivers and start over.

Finally, do you guys know if PCIe x4 will limit ppd on a GS/GSO like I've got? I seem to recall the bandwidth only came into play with the higher level 8/9 series cards (GTS & above).

That sounds like a really neat F@H rig, you got me interested. Unfortunately, the only P5E64 WS board at NewEgg is this one: link

It's $329, and requires expensive DDR3. I'd be better off buying two whole E5200 systems. Or possibly 780G, there's an Asrock board with dual PCI-E slots.

There's a P5E64WS Professional (X38) on eBay (item 220297016945) for $200 shipped from the same guy I got mine from (shipped next day, received in four days). And that's before MS cashback ($60).

This board does require DDR3 but there's a 4GB G.Skill kit for $130 at newegg. And there's a Corsair 750TX for $82 after rebates (4xpcie 6+2 plugs).
