folders looking weird under win2k

i have been using win2k for, hmm, okay i forget how long, quite a while anyway, and i have just been having this problem recently. for some reason windwos explorer displays every folder with the (+) indicating it is exapandable. i had been having stability issues, so i did a clean install yesterday, and the problem persists. i have installed sp2, and as far as i know, it never did it before that....anyone have any ideas? tried using tweak ui and rebuild icons, but that didn't do anything...
