Folders in My Computer loading very slowly...

I have a 40gb maxtor 7200 rpm hdd, and it's almost full. lately when i select a folder in My Computer, or open it through start/run, it takes a few seconds just for the contents of the folder to show up. This has never happened before. It happens with folders that have thousands of files in them to folders that just have a few files. Is a defrag the solution to this problem?

Defragging can't hurt. Go ahead and try defragging. If it doesn't work, you can always do something else, like getting another 40gb Maxtor 7200rpm drive and raiding them!
