Folder view modes in XP

I am detail-oriented and I like to see my folders shown in detail view, not icon view.
While I know how to do this for windows explorer under tools>folder options, some of my apps (i.e. AutoCAD) persist in showing only icon folder views. I hate this. It drives me nuts. I change the view to detail, but it doesn't persist. I'm looking for a reg tweak to beat the OS into giving me detail folder views always for every Win compliant app I use. Can anyone on the forum help me?

This may be a dumb questiion, but have you tried using the windows explorer under tools>folder options
setting applied to the entire drive? I may not have some of the applications you're running but this has always worked for me.

you need to look for a hidden desktop.ini, folder.ini, or shell.ini file (I forget which). Those contain metadata that Explorer.exe uses to display the contents of folders, including icons, folder view, etc. You could try deleting/renaming that file and see what happens, see if you can get control of the view back.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have set detail view and applied it to all folders, but some apps, like ACAD2002, seem to ignore this fact.
Also tried searching and examining any folder.ini, desktop.ini files but to no avail.
I have a feeling it's more of an issue with the app itself. But just recently, before I rebuilt my system from scratch, I was able to see detail view in this app.

Thanks,

Follow-up to original post...
While I'm on the topic of folders, when I open windows explorer, my dir trees are collapsed into 'My Computer'. This is another annoyance I would like to change. When I open WinExp, I would like to see the dir tree persist in the last view I had, which is generally expanded view of certain drives.
