Folder sharing from 2 locations not under a domain

Forgive me if this is something simple I haven't thought of. I have 2 machines at 2 physical locations, miles apart. Both will have DSL connections. Both run WinXP Pro. I need to share a folder on one machine so the machine at the other location can save a .txt file to the machine with the shared folder. What is the simplest way to do this?

simplest? FTP
best: VPN

Can this be achieved with both machines running XP Pro? All the tutorials I've looked at are using 2000/2003 Server OS.

Yes. The XP machines just need to be loaded with FTP server software Try Filezilla or any number of free FTP servers.

You'll also have to make sure the routers are forwarding port 21 (the default port, unless you change it) at both locations.

Sorry, I was referring to the VPN part of his comment.
