folder redirection issues

here's an odd problem:

i setup folder redirection. unfortunately, the settings won't take. nothing has moved from the default location for "my folders" to the redirected share. i tried both the basic and advanced options.

worse, in past, when i tried to redirect from the older redirected folders to the default location, the redirection wouldn't work either.

if you're asking about the option to move the folders back to the default location, i did select that option.

it seems as if the registry entries are locked and can't be changed. to change back to the default location, i had to edit the registry.

after each redirection i did a "gpupdate" i even tried a "gpupdate /force" and rebooted the machine.

i had 2 DC's but at the moment I have only one.

any suggestions on why the settings wont take, and how to fix this problem so the settings take every time i redirect?

First place to start is the eventlog on the clients. Folder redirection will log successful and unsuccessful redirects there.

Hmmmm... it just works here. On a client computer, what does the properties of My Documents say? Make sure you have it redirected to a folder that the user really has permissions to as that would be the most basic mistake. Can you log on as a user and map the network connection of the redirect? We use the root of the Home share as the redirection point. The "root" then becomes "My Documents". Homes here are \\nasserver\userid$

thanks for the suggestion, but it was a bit more basic.

this doesn't really have anything to do with the properties of the client workstations, since it's going to be redirected to a domain controller (and soon, both if i can manage to get dfs running!) but to answer you, i could access the root share directory without any issue, but the directories weren't being created as directed by the GP.

it was a really really really lame reasons.

i didn't link the policy to the appropriate place. once i did that viola.

there is another issue though. while the redirection works w/o issue with the workstations, i can't access the desktop files and the "my documents" folder while i log on to the domain controllers.

any ideas on that one?

There is a checkbox to give the users explicit access to those folders. Should have unchecked that before you deployed the policy.

hmmm... alright but i'd understand if this was a universal problem - if i had the same problems with my workstations, but it's only there when i log onto my servers.
