Folder Limitations

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but...As a rule of thumb is there a limitation on the number of files that can be in one folder? What about a size capacity?

Just wondering...

Thanks,

Bob

It's really filesystem dependent, but generally speaking there will be a limit to things like the number of files in a folder and the size of a file. For some filesystems the limit is so massive that it never comes into play.

Yes. Though this is a variable that can be altered in unix/linux systems, but you have to keep in mind system stability.
As for a single file size, I'm not aware of any limitations unless specified by sys admin.

There used to be a limit of files you could have in the root c: in FAT formatted drives, but not sure about NTFS.
