folder.jpg vs ID3 embedded art

I used to use iTunes and foobar, but now I'm using Media Jukebox and foobar. Both of these programs can read album art from a folder.jpg file placed in the album's directory.

I currently have an old 4th gen iPod, so album art isn't an issue on there anyway. But I will soon be buying a new iPod classic or maybe a Zune. Can either of these read art from a folder.jpg, or do they need to be embedded in ID3 tags?

Also on a related note, can Media Jukebox sync with Zunes?
