folder I don't recognize

I installed the newest WMP and didn't like it (should have known). Turned on system restore beforehand and reverted back to older version. There is now a folder on my d: partition called 6bf14467cd117bfb2a1650e8. I cannot access it with a limited account. As admin I scanned it using Avira AntiVir and there's nothing suspicious. Here's a screenshot of the folder:

Any thoughts?

I have two similar on my D drive I've wondered how they came there too.

i'm pretty sure it has something to do with the system restore or updates like n0cmonkey said.

isn't in the uninstall info for a service pack? i though those were under windows and were hidden though

you can change a setting to show hidden folders

A quick follow-up:

1) I don't have hidden folders visible
2) After uninstalling the latest WMP I turned off system restore
3) Was then able to delete the folder (couldn't w sys restore on)

Therefore it must have had to do w sys restore. Kinda surprised OS didn't throw this on the C partition and I'm sure there's a setting somewhere that determines where such a folder goes. Just wanted to add this in case anyone comes across it in the future.

I believe they are temporary files extracted to your hard drive from the installer (for an update). You can safely delete them.
Uninstall information is stored in a folder like C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB912812$ (where KB***** is the update/patch name)

What I don't get is why you used system restore in the first place? Seems a crazy way to uninstall software tbh :/
