Fog lights are for foggy conditions... why must people use them all the time???

Just a rant... I wish people would realize that fog lights in un-foggy conditions just make it harder for oncoming traffic to see. The glare is annoying and if a SUV has 'em on, it's worse as they sit higher up and blind you even more. Nobody cares about your foglights people, they aren't status symbols (unless you're a teenie bopper) so give it a rest already.

Better yet, why do all the DMV manuals say that ur supposed to use low beams in foggy conditions, not fog lights? What type of crap is that?

People think "they look cool," that's why.

DMV says use low-beams so people won't use high-beams, which just create a lit wall of fog right in front of your face. Most vehicles aren't equipped with fog lights.

Fog Lights will not only make your car look really cool (and you know that's important), they add about 10 Horsepower per light. So that's 20 hidden HP!! If you get Blue or Amber colored lights, that adds another 5 HP. So there are some obvious reasons for adding the lamps. Especially if you have a Honda Civic/Accord/Integra.

They probably say that cause not all cars have fog lights... if peeps used their high-beams, the light refraction would make visability even worse. I have fog lights on my 89 pontiac but they're stock yellow ugly ones that actually work, not those fancy blue ones that the kids buy at pep boys for their pink dodge neons with the home-made body kit.

Stock foglight don't bother me since they are positioned to provide proper illumination in foggy conditions. It's improperly mounted aftermarket lights and wannabe overwattage "HID"s that tend to be the offenders you seem concerned about.

There is such a thing as auxillary drivings light you know. The aim and beam focus/throw are the only real differnces.

Oh yah, they look real cool, they make me "sport wood" every time i see a 'phat sub-100 hp civic with pimped out fog lights and type-r stickers. That's funny, i didn't think they made a honda crx type-r? (saw one at petco last week, must be a rare factory ride and the rust probably adds 30 horsepower by eliminating the excess weight the paint that was there added.

edit: yah windog, those are the ones!!! I can't stand those things... pimp out the engine, stuff Krell monoblocks in the trunk with 30 carbon fiber 10 inch drivers duct taped to the seat but please, let me be able to drive my crappy car at night with out fighting the added glare. I wish i were a cop, i'd be pulling people over left and right (for the fog lights and flicking cig butts out the window mostly). Maybe it's time to go to the police academy...

I saw a Ford Focus Type-R once. That was interesting.

There is a custom shop around here called 'Erotic Imagez" I make it a point to leave notes on these erotic vehicles to inform their owner that images is spelled with an 's', not 'z'. They never seem to fix it...

ok, anyone realize that lazy peeps who install fog lights usually wire them with their headlamps??

so sometimes they dont have a choice, and again if they didnt install it with a seperate toggle switch.

in defense of imports, big heavy suvs are not meant for mudding. and classic is another word for OLD:)

Most of what I see aren't fog lites but aux. driving lites. My car has 'em too, and I flick mine on/off at oncomers to alert them that the lites are on and shouldn't be. Never had one driver respond by turning them off....I'd guess that most don't even know where the switch is. :|

My car has turning lights too, clear lights on the front corners that come on to illuminate the direction your turn signal is indicating.

actually what I find worse is the not turning off the bright rear fog lights on cars. Most european cars have it. The front fog lights are ok to deal with if it came with the car, otherwise its a waste of good money if you dont install it right.

actually, fog light allow you to see the road better. anyone who's used them before would know this.

i have an eclipse gt, and it helps to make my presence known to bigger cars, especially SUVs. especially since nobody signals when they change lanes anymore. damn idiots... :|

I don't see the need to have fog lights on all the time since so many are improperly aimed. I have a new car with these (running lights?) but they don't have a separate switch to turn them off. They stay on with the low and high beams. WTF?

Sometimes there is an important reason to have your fog lights on. When I was younger my brother and I had similar Camaro's. In our state you were obligated to have a front license plate. Well, we just registered one car and split the license plates. Hey, we were 16. Anyway, we put bright fog lights in the front to distract your eye so the police wouldn't notice the missing front license plate. It worked great!

I have 6 lights on the front of my truck. Two headlights, two foglamps, and two driving lights. I am a hypocrite about them though, and admittedly have the last set because I like the light that they throw. But I do ONLY use them when needed, nights or on the highway at night. I don't blind people; but I do know a lot of other people dont have that same viewpoint. But my hyprocasy ends when it comes to the lux or moded cars with the super bright blue lights, those are blinding.
