Fog lights: Amber or White light? *POLL*

Buying some PIAA foglights. These, but in black and I have a choice b/t amber and white light.

Which one to get? I remember reading something to the effect that yellowish-amber-colored light cuts thru fog and rain better...but it looks kinda crappy.

What say you?
 
White.

Blue is a lower wf in the spectrum and hence tends to blind people with it high dispersion but doesn't illuminate any depth.

White is the first choice, yellow (amber) the second, and blue the third.

For driving you should get yourself a pair of Cibie Oscar above bumper Driving lights:

I ordered the Spots (not pencil) they have a range of 600M ("sunlike" says my wife 😉).

You can see about a mile ahead clearly with a dispersion of about 1.34fua which to me is perfect 😉

Amber is the proper color for fog lights. That's if you want to use them as fog lights which most people don't. They just want a cool looking second set of lights. If that's the case then white.

I'm really surprised that it took this long for someone to say
amber = fog lights
white = driving lights

I was just too lazy to do it myself. 😉

Thanks guys; I'll get the amber lights. 🙂 I already have my driving lights. 130W KC Hiltes. Highly illegal for on-road use. I don't turn them on unless I REALLY need to, as I blind drivers in the other lane from half a mile away. 😀

Exactly, THe yellow will be absorbed in the fog and will efficiently light your way while white light is reflected like hell.
 
the maxima came with some factory white lights. I've had the luxury of driving in fog here and can say with quite confidence that as fog lights they are utterly useless. They're entirely for show. Perhaps the amber ones do in fact work better in the fog, and perhaps these maxima ones would be better than nothing in _severe_ fog (the kind where you're driving at 10 mph), but in moderate fog they don't do a freaking thing.
 
Yeah, when I used to live in Big Bear I had ambers. A world of difference from white when trying to see more than the fog itself. heh
