One thing I have learned in my three years fighting cancer is that everyday I spend worrying cancer wins! I suspect the same thing applies to any worry a person might have. Now I devote time each day to focus on gratitude & yes, things that bring me laughter & joy.

My family, I am blessed to have smart, compassionate, funny family members
My two cats bring intense laughter, comfort and joy
Food, I love discovering something new that is good to eat
Music, it takes me to another place
Friends, both real-time & online, I know some of the most brilliant, creative minds on the web!
Coffee, beverage of the gods!
And sorry but not sorry, my tech. Love my Apple devices, love them

Take a minute every day to think about things that bring you joy, you will be glad you did,

I try to. Especially given the fact I've had several members of my family and friends die of cancer withen just the last 3 years! My dad lost two of his best friends just recently. I lost my best cousin. It really does show you that you can be here one day and not the next.

I get a lot of joy with computers and technology. Learning about websites and doing things for my own website projects. I love to fly in my Flight Sim. Every place I go to I look at it on Google Street View. I just wrapped up a tour of South America. That is one big damn continent! Then I flew to Stanley Falkland Islands and from there a base camp (can't remember the name) at the tip of Antarctica. Now I flown back and currently in Mexico City on my way to San Diego.

For me though, I usually have this half cup is empty thing. But I try to make the most of things.

There has been some interesting research that shows that taking a few minutes each day to reflect on things you are grateful for or writing in a 'gratitude journal' results in a notable improvement in happiness - as much if not more impact than a 2x increase in salary. Similarly, choosing to focus on the negatives leads to a self reinforcing downward spiral in happiness.

The mind is a powerful thing and while we cannot choose a great many aspects of our life, how we choose to deal with them has a profound effect on our emotional and physical health. Congratulations to you for finding the good to focus on in your life despite trying times!

It's so easy to find things to complain or worry about now days, but you're right, need to focus on the good and not the bad. We do have it very good compared to places like 3rd world countries.

Well, the thing that brings me joy I have not had for several years.
And I'm too broke to pay for it.

I released my girl from punishment yesterday. She's been quarantined for a few months for peeing on the floor. She finally came into my bedroom tonight when I was getting ready for a shower with a look of pure joy on her face. Looking forward to sleeping with the cat again. I missed having her there. Now, she just needs to refrain from peeing on the floor...

Haha I always feel the same way when I need to punish my cat. I kinda don't like sleeping without her around but at same time if she's in that puke mode I don't want her puking all over the bed, so in quarantine she goes. The puke usually lasts a few days so I let her out when I'm at home but if she's left unattended she'll just spray everywhere.

Supposedly we go thru 6000 negative thoughts a day, and that those thoughts are the same ones you had the day before, and before and so on. Which is crazy. I know in my life, the negative thoughts stick out way more often than the positive ones. Back thousands of years ago thinking negatively had a great purpose and kept us alive. You can't be all positive when there were iwars, and saber tooth tigers. But today? Much of our negativity gets in the way.

This is why I spend a few minutes to jot down what I'm grateful for. For today, it's 1) having great health 2) having a job that allows me to pay my bills 3) my father and that he's still alive.

We tend to take things for granted until something happens in our lives. Meditation helps a lot as well. Try 2 min a day, everyday. Don't miss a day. And, workup from there. I do at least 5 min a day. I hope to at one point do 20 min a day.
