I got some interesting popups :).

A dude linked from consumptionjunction in one of my threads and was banned. I have no problems with it, but I'm just warning you cause people are getting banned left and right.

NTSB Identification: LAX87LA190 . The docket is stored on NTSB microfiche number 35617.

Accident occurred Sunday, April 26, 1987 at RUBIDOUX, CA
Aircraft:HUGHES 269B, registration: N101DN
Injuries: 1 Minor.

A HUGHES 269B WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND COLLIDED WITH THE GROUND DURING A T/O TO A HOVER. THE PILOT HAD PURCHASED THE AIRCRAFT RECENTLY AND WAS LEARNING TO FLY IT. HE WAS SCHEDULED FOR HIS FIRST FLIGHT LESSON ON THE DAY OF THE ACCIDENT. THE CFI REPORTED THAT HE HAD TOLD THE STUDENT PILOT TO WAIT FOR HIM AND NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHING. WHILE WAITING FOR THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, THE NON ROTORCRAFT RATED STUDENT PILOT STARTED THE AIRCRAFT, RAN IT UP TO FULL RPM, AND THEN BEGAN TO INCREASE THE COLLECTIVE PITCH CONTROL. THE HELICOPTER CLIMBED VERTICALLY TO A HIGH HOVER AND THE PILOT LOST CONTROL. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE HAD NOT RELEASED THE CYCLIC FRICTION BEFORE BECOMING AIRBORNE. THE PILOT INDICATED HE HAD ABOUT500 HOURS OF FLIGHT TIME BUT DID NOT SPECIFY THE TYPE AND NO SUBSTANTIATION OF THE TIME COULD BE MADE.

The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows.

DIRECTIONAL CONTROL..NOT MAINTAINED..DUAL STUDENT
JUDGMENT..POOR..DUAL STUDENT
VERTICAL TAKEOFF..UNCONTROLLED..DUAL STUDENT
INSTRUCTIONS,WRITTEN/VERBAL..DISREGARDED..DUAL STUDENT

What an idiot! I can fly so much better than that! I can even kill things when doing it! I mean, it can't be much different than Comanche 4, right? :)

If you ever tried flying a helicopter on MS Flight Sim, you'll see that it's a lot more difficult than an airplane. The propeller is actually the air-foil (wings) and it's easy for them to pitch any direction if you tilt the stick. Once you do, they lose significant thrust since the thrust they produce is down...so you can slice the air and not get any upward lift.

But in a real helicopter, you have to balance on the yaw control precisely to prevent spinning.

Exactly...there's no comparison to a real one and a simulator. I was just trying to make the point that if you actually try to land one on a sim, you're probably going to crash...unless you have all the helpers turned on. I used to fly planes and helicopters with the realism settings maxed and auto rudder off...it really sucked, but I got the hang of it after a while. One day when I get the time and cash, I'm going to take lessons again.

Dude, I'm warning you, remove that link or you'll face the wrath of the mods faster than....well...fast.
Oftentimes even MENTIONING the name of said site will get you banned. I've seen it happen.
