Fluctuating Boost question

I am trying to get my PowerColor AX7950 3GBD5-2DHV5E to keep boost more stable when I overclock. It jumps up and down way too much.
I understand it adjusts based on requirements and to keep within the 20% powerboost but wondering if I could flash my bios to get around this?

This is a link to an open box / oos link but same card.

Even when running Furmark or Crysis 3 and with 20% Powerboost it fluctuates way too much. Temps are not an issue. I would appreciate even a reduction in the variance.

I forgot to mention I use Afterburner to set overclocks and power limit to 20%. In doing so it disables certain overdrive functions.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have.

Does the voltage fluctuate with boost clocks? If so try using TRIXX for overclocks with the "force constant voltage" setting.

Edited: Afterburner should have this option too.

Hrm... that's a good point , never thought about that. I will look into it when I can and update thread. thanks YEPP :)

Edit... Out of curiosity if this is the case, is this a common issue with cards or only select cards?

There is a drawback with forcing constant voltage, as the card will draw more power when idle with whatever voltage is set for the boost clock. So not worth it if it doesn't stabilize your boost clocks.

I have no experience with the 7950 but with the tahiti variant of the 7870, the fluctuating boost clock is a BIOS issue.

Is the variation in boost causing stuttering or preventing the card from delivering the FPS you desire?
