Check out what they did to my box :|

I shipped this box (containing 1 monitor) across the country. When it got there, the monitor didn't work. It was returned to me in the condition shown above. As far as my insurance claim - UPS says "insufficient packaging was used". That's BS it's obvious that the package was mistreated. When I piad for $150 worth of insurance. (it says so on my reciept), the guy at the counter did NOT tell me that it wouldn't qualify for insurance due to packaging. So, either he charged me fradulently for a service that he couldn't provide, or they're trying to screw me and blame ME for them dropping the monitor off a truck (I'm going with the second explanation).

What sohuld I do to get my $150 back. this is BS.

oh, and the box was BRAND NEW when I shipped it.

That box doesn't look too bad. Did you pack it in the factory pack? If so, I think you have a legitimate claim. If not, and you didn't go by their guidelines (they probably have a poster in the main drop off office), then you're out of luck.

UPS is notorious for not paying electronics claims. I think i read you have to double box electronics to qualify or something.

Wow, they really manhandled that thing....

How can it be insufficient packaging, when thats what the manufacturer ships it in?

Box or the whole thing? If the whole thing, then you should get your money.

<< OMFG, you even have a fragile tag on it. Is this how they handle it?! >>

Man, have you ever been to the UPS warehouse to pick a package up? I go there all the time, and I can see those monkeys back there throwing boxes around like f-ing basketballs. Morons.

I was in the office and the lady (who I know & like) was telling a woman how sometimes the boxes get backed up and fall 10 or so feet off the conveyor belt :)

I sent an email to UPS customer service. I attached the pictures I took. If they still wont pay the insurance (that I paid for when I shipped it) then I'm going to take them to small claims court. They can't jsut smash things and blame it on me.

That thing must have been tossed around like crazy to be warped on all sides like that. Talk to UPS again, go as a high up the chain as you can, if they still won't budge, take their ass to court. I'm not sure how they are able to claim insufficiant packaging, did they open it up and inspect it?

"sufficiently packed" by their definition - Must be able to withstand multiple drops from a truck, a drop from a 10 foot platform, and excessive kicking. We don't really care anyway.:disgust:

I ship USPS and I've never had a package mistreated like that. Heck, I've shipped packages across the country and then got them back (trading parts) and they still are in fine looking condition. That box looks like they dropped it a few times getting it into the truck, and then it fell out in transit.

i had a friend who used to work for UPS and he said they just tossed stuff around, they didn't care if it was marked fragile or whatever. and in thier warehouse, things would be stacked up so unevenly that they would often fall, breaking whatever was inside. noone seemed surpriesed by this he said, as far as i'm concerned UPS sucks

I should clarify, that this isn't exctly shipped in the manufacturers pacakging. There's a Sony momnitor rather than a Viewsonic monitr in the box. It's basically the same size and fit almost perfectly. I jsut needed to trim a couple cubic inches off one peice of styrofoam to make it fit perfectly. When I shipped it, it was nice and square, the sides were sturdy, and it didn't rattle around or shake. UPS killed it.

Still, I got exhaust pipes shipped via UPS once, that were halfway out of the box when I got them... at least the whole monitor's still in the box here.

wow, I didn't think the World Cup started until June, yet UPS is already playing soccer with packages.

UPS somehow managed to "lose" a 6'x12' rug that my aunt sent from Canada. It made it to our local hub, had an unload scan, and that's all she wrote. No explanation from them... can only get back $500 for a rug that is worth a couple grand. :|

UPS shipping requirements should be that the manufacturers packaging is ok, if you don't have the manufacturers packaging then you need to double box.

As long as it is that specific Viewsonic monitor in that box, they should have no grounds to claim "insufficient packaging." Keep complaining, 99.9% of the time UPS customer service blows, but you might just get lucky and talk to someone with a clue. <has bad flashbacks from the CS person that told him it was physically impossible to call the UPS shipping center that "misplaced" his package>

Having worked for UPS, I'm not surprised your box looks like crap. Just keep asking them over and over again for the insurance stuff - 99% of the time they will deny your claim the first time based on insufficient packaging (I now do UPS Shipping @ Staples, all claims are rejected the first time by UPS regardless of how it's packed) until they cave in.

I think you might have a case here...

UPS sold you insurence. Now that you need to claim your insurence they are telling you, that you do not qualify...

Let me get this straight...... UPS WILLING sold insurence to you, that you DO NOT qualify for......
SCAM, FRAUD, MISREPRESENTATION... call it whatever you want.....

Please fight them, tell them that you have hired an attorney and you will be taking them to court....

Good Luck..

several years ago a friend of mine ordered a rendition v2200 video card and when it arrived there were tire marks on the box, a big hole in the box, and gravel embedded in the video card. what exactly do they do at UPS?
