Flower macro photo - whatcha think? 3 different pics for your pleasure!

hdr is an extension of the brightness range used in the rendering of frames, allowing for darker than black shades and whiter than white ones. there is no such thing in real life

I dig the framing or the colors in the macro shots.
The sunset is pretty, but also poorly framed.

Keep on shootin!

With your macros try to get more intimate with your subject. Don't be afraid to get close and personal, bringing out the minute details in flowers or bugs. You don't HAVE to get the whole flower and its petals. You can just go right for the parts like stamens with their pollen and such.

Like your first photo for example, the colors are a bit bland, probably due to a cloudy day. Try bringing out the colors in PS:

Your Mexican Hat's lighting was a bit too harsh, resulting in an overexposed top to the flower. I like to always preview my photos after taking them, quickly taking note of some obvious exposure flaws before moving onto the next photo. Perhaps try and underexpose next time in hard light.

As for the sunset, yeah, you've got High Dynamic Range confused with something else 😛

The thing with sunsets is to bring out their firey color, but also of note is to try and get an interesting foreground. The foreground in your picture is a bit brown and featureless, detracting from the sky. I understand your pain thought since I live in the east and there's nothing here but farms and brown dull dead farm plants... not exactly the best settings for grand scenics 🙁
