I was just thinking about this couple hours ago. What if someone was allergic to flouride? I guess it could happen. With the way society is today, would the water companies be force to do something about getting the flouride out of the water for that one customer?

According to conspiracy theorists, fluouride is a toxin that decreases your will and makes you more susceptible to suggestion - a "mind control" substance if you will.

Not really.

Too much is bad, and not enough is bad. You have to balance them for the right amount. Too much is toxic, but not enough is bad too. It is almost like any vitamin, too much is bad, not enough is bad, it is a balance thing.

Flouride isn't a vitamin though. It's only purpose is to harden tooth enamel.

When I went back to Taiwan, I heard that they didn't have fluoride in the water. I found my teeth getting a whole lot dirtier than usual (stains and plaque). I don't think it was the food since I eat chinese/taiwanese food nearly every day at home anywho. ;)

Heck, when you use toothpaste you put fluoride on your teeth.

From Snopes:

"The U.S. Food and Drug Administration does require that fluoride toothpastes shipped as of 7 April 1998 carry a warning label about the dangers of swallowing too much toothpaste, and sodium lauryl sulfate is one of the three ingredients (along with sorbitol and flouride) identified as posing a health risk. Because it causes cancer? No, because it can cause diarrhea. "

Also, there is no verifiable link between the fluoridation of water and any health risks. There IS, however, proof of a link between shortened life expectency and bad teeth. People with bad teeth and gums seldom live as long as those with healthy teeth and gums

On that very page, click on the "fluoride is safe" link. It shows just what agencies and groups disagree with the nutjobs who claim fuoride causes everything from aging to alien abductions.

The American Dental Association (ADA), the American Medial Association, the National Institute of Dental Research, the United States Environment Protection Agency, the Centers of Disease Control, the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Defense, the National Academy of Sciences, Proctor and Gamble, dental schools, and others promote fluoridation.

I'm supposed to believe this guy over these groups? Uh huh...

What's wrong with brushing? That's always worked for me!

Brushing alone does not stop tooth decay. Especially if you do not brush after each and every meal. There is a marked difference in the health of people's teeth between areas with fluoridated water, and those without.
