A while back when I bought a pair of shoes at Florsheim (NJ) they asked if I wanted to be on their preferred customer mailing list. Well, today it paid off. Offer started Monday, June 18th.

I received a postcard in the mail which acted as a coupon. It worked like this:
One pair - 10%
Two pairs - 20%
Three or more - 30% off your entire bill.

I bought 3 pairs of shoes on sale, plus a belt and the 30% off was a nice savings. I never would've purchased 3 pairs normally, but now I'm set for a while on shoes. Example: a pair of Rockport Walkers, list at $90 on sale at $50, less 30% = $35 net.

If you never received a postcard, you could go to a store and ask to become a preferred customer. Maybe they'll give you the discount, or at least you can sign up for future offers.

The answer is NO. If you're looking for comfort with good support, then Florsheim is not the shoe go to with.

Thanks Steve, why can't dress shoes be as comfy as my Adidas cross trainers?

Frustrating!

Those are comfortable. I've worn the same pair for the last 4+ years. The quality is excellent and the shoe has hollow spaces in the soles to provide good cushioning. Unfortunately the soles have worn out. My favorite part of them is the style - I like simple and functional dress shoes with class. Give some other guy the frills and patterns.

edit: I didn't pay $75 for mine. Probably closer to $55-$60.

RossMAN: If you are looking for a comfortable shoe from Florsheim, I would recommend their "Comfortech" line. I owned two pairs from the line, and both were quite comfortable. (At least compared to others that I owned or tried on. ;) )

JumpOnDeals: If Florsheim is not a good brand for comfort, then what is? Since I'm in the market for new shoes again... ;)

EDIT:

cmv: Wow, those Dexter's look nice (even has the option of choosing Width). The only thing I am curious about, does the insoles stain your socks? As in some low-quality (even some high-quality ones as well) shoes have those leather lining inside the shoe that stains your socks. :(

junthin: To tell you the truth I don't remember. They may have in the very beginning but I often wear black or navy blue socks when wearing these shoes. They came with a cushioned insert and tan leather insides. The build quality is the best I've had - I brought some cheaper dress boot type shoes to replace these until I can get another pair. The new boots (Viking brand) are really poor construction compared to these.

Zappos.com is selling them for ~$75 with free shipping (dextershoes.com price but they only give free shipping if order is $100 or more). If anyone finds a cheaper price please share it! I brought mine at Chernins shoe store (brick & morter).

I just realized something - the tan leather on the inside is like the leather on the outside of a brief case. It isn't suede. So it probably doesn't stain your socks. But do ask the salespeople!

edit: Yeah, the width choice is excellent. I have wide feet too. The shoes were a bit tight when I purchased them but as leather does it formed to my feet very well. Right now I can't believe I didn't skip the cheap boots purchase and just buy another pair of these even at $75. They are premo in my opinion. I'm sure you can find better for more $$$ but if the quality is the same as before you will not be disappointed.

One last thing - these really are as close to being as comfortable as tennis shoes yet still looking good.

Florsheim comfortech series are super comfortable and it feels like you are not wearing shoes at all.
And personally, I think the Imperial series look simplu phenomenal.
I wish I had that postcard in my mail :)

I've worn the Florsheim Comfortech in the past and they were comfortable and light, yet still dressy. However, I like the Florsheim Imperials for a true dress shoe. It's more traditional and takes a while to break in, but they last a long time and have a leather sole.

I was a little surprised to find the Rockport ProWalkers at Florsheim. In a reddish tan with black trim, this shoe is for casual clothes, they don't go with a suit. It wasn't my first choice in terms of color and style, but it was so comfortable I was sold.

Make sure you try the shoe on before buying one online. Sizes vary, as does comfort. I see nice deals on shoes at shoebuy.com, but I want to try them on first.

RossMAN, in the end you'll have to go into the store and try a few on. The things that have worked well for are:
1. Making sure they are made in Italy.
2. Making sure they have support for my high arches.
3. Nice bonus is if they are soft inside.
4. Making sure they are natural leather.

I agree with amdmaxx Clark's are the nicest casual dress
shoes I have ever owned and they pass all of the conditions
specified above. However, it takes forever and a day to find
a comfortable shoe. That's why I buy a few pairs at a time when
I do.

Try Sketchers. My friend has some and says they're comfy. Got them for like $30 retail I think. Only negative thing is they are heavy. They should be sold in most department stores.

The 'Comfortech' series are the BEST dress shoes for comfort and look in the business.

If you can get a discount on these shoes, don't hesitate to buy them.

They sell some of the "unmarked" sketchers at Florsheim, the ones that don't look like trendy kids shoes with the big S's stamped all over them. I bought theselast summer before I went on a trip to Europe. They really dont like sneakers in Paris. Needless to say walking up to Versailles in these things really makes you appreciate how comfy they are. I liked 'em so much I bought another pair recently, only this time I bought the "Alfani" brand from Macy's. Its the same shoe, with the same Italian manufacturer for the sole (theyre Identical, except for softer material on the Alfani (cheaper and wears out quicker, but also more flexible)), only I can tell that the Sketchers have a higher quality inside. Oh well, they were 40$ cheaper, cant expect the same shoe.

Florsheim's are pretty much the Lexus of men's shoes, but they're made from hard leather that takes a couple of weeks to break in to become comfortable. As for support, they seem fine to me...not sure how much you need.

ElGato - Thanks for the suggestions, that should be very helpful. The most formal I ever get is a business suit and as long as I'm not wearing berks or tennis shoes I pretty much consider that 'business casual'. So a 'dress shoe' which is comfortable, well made, good breathability and affordable is what I'm looking for.
