You would hope that if enough states start doing this enough public backlash would make Washington do it's job.

It's reaching critical mass and the Obama administration chooses to attack free states. You're going to see more and more free states take matters into their own hands.

Then again Obama wants the balkanization to continue so his inaction is willful and on purpose.

The proposal by McCollum, who is engaged in a tough election race as a Republican candidate for the state governorship, was certain to thrust Florida into the sensitive immigration debate that has become a hot political issue ahead of mid-term Congressional elections on November 2.
Weird that it wasn't a problem until his job was in trouble.

Couldn't possibly be just a political talking point.

I can't wait until the Repugs/Tea Partiers get in power and immediately start deporting approximately 18 million people.

You know ICE is already having to perform a kind of triage, and only deports criminals since congress has only funded them enough to process 400,000 people a year. But go ahead states pile on.

ILLEGAL immigration problem has been an on-going problem for the last few decades (Demo and Repub administrations) and it will take a while to solve it. No one is saying it will be solved overnight.

Would you rather let us do another big AMNESTY for ALL ILLEGALS like we did in 1986 and all the hot air/talk about border and law enforcement but no actual enforcement? Shall we continue to do the same thing and expect different result?

LEGALS - yes. Follow existing laws and regulations - yes. ILLEGALS - no. Amnesty - no. Anchor babies - no. That's all.

Send all the cubans back home first.
The Cuban exception is ridiculous. I can see the point (not that I agree to make an exception for 1 nation) of a law saying hey, you are in an oppressed country, if you can get here you can stay here. But in the same breath say if we snag you before you make it to shore we send you back makes no sense.

I could be wrong, but I see the illegal immigration issue as (mostly) a cheap political issue. Sure, there are definitely problems, especially on border states (of which Florida is NOT one). But the typical overly dramatic presentation of the problem is pure political theater. Yes, illegal immigration is an issue. No, it's not an "invasion". Yes, we should come up with better policies for dealing with it. No, we don't need an electrified fence topped with terminator robots mowing down Mexicans.

In other words, just like terrorism before it, this is just another issue to manipulate people into supporting specific politicians and political groups without putting too much thought into it. Why else are the Republicans floating changing the 14th amendment, something they basically have zero chance of doing?

A diversion to keep the masses preoccupied so they won't notice that the ruling elite is grabbing more and more power.

Ooh! Posturing by desperate Florida Repubs... I can't imagine why...

Although I can see this backfiring badly because of the Cuban community, who'll probably see it for the racist pandering it is...

Maybe Florida voters will have more sense than their Arizona counterparts... We'll see...

Have you lived in the South? Because in certain places at certain times it sure can feel like an invasion.

Tell me you're not allowed to vote. Illegal is not a race, its a crime. It has nothing to do with race.

If you entered the USA illegally, you are a criminal and need to be arrested and deported. Most of Arizona was behind the immigration laws, the idiots you saw on TV were from California. This should information should have been slapped over that broadcast in a big flashing watermark 'These people are from CA and do not represent Arizona.'

It may seem to like political pandering to some, and undeniably, some politicians are seizing on the opportunity to advance their re-election chances, but the fact is that this issue has been building for years. US citizens are getting fed up with their government ignoring their wishes.

All you gotta do is go to Walmart on Sunday.

:awe:

We have a Walmart here that is mostly Spanish.. all the signs.. advertisements.. all Spanish. I went there once.. The cashier spoke Spanish to me and broken English when I spoke in English.

Bradenton.. not Miami.

Yep, ICE did a major bust at a corporation in a town where I used to live. They grabbed several white folks that were illegals (Europeans, white Mexicans and whites from South America) and deported their asses. Take it the majority of the illegals were Mexicans of mixed European / American Indian ancestry, but there are also far more of them here illegally than the other groups.
