Funny how she said she wouldn't give/sell it to her kids/grandkids because they wouldn't take care of it like she did.

As stupid as it sounds, I basically interview people before they can own one of my cars too. I take good care of my things, and I like to see them go to people who will do the same honestly. As much as its only a piece of metal.

I don't actually interview people, I just like to get a feel for what people are like. Heh.

I remember reading a story about her a few years ago. Too bad she won't be able to drive anymore.

Not really sad, if she drove for like 80 years that's pretty good. I see a lot of much younger people that should NOT be on the road.

She is amazing though, and that video had me thinking they don't make 'em like they used to. Then again it's really all up to the owner to make it happen unless you get a lemon.

I have about 1/5th of that on my Maxima... only 45 more years to go!

Christ, I couldn't live with a car that long. I bet her husbands put most of the mileage on that car anyway.

I have to say, the nearly 3 million miles that guy has on his Volvo is far more stunning. We're talking 5-6 TIMES the miles of this Mercury. And of course there are a handful of million-mile cars out there, including a Honda Accord and an Econoline van. This story is cute cause it's a little old lady, of course.

Hah hah. She takes care of everything but her husbands...ROFL

Cool lady

On a side note: Is it pretty difficult to get a car to last that long with just regular maintenance? I plan on keeping the car my parents bought me for a very, very, VERY long time...already have had it for eight years! :p

I remember seeing a video clip of a news story about this old lady. I'm sorry to hear that she has to stop driving.

Frankly, whoever isn't happy driving their car should get a different car if they are real 'drivers' and not just 'commuters'. Personally, I think I spend too much time in my car to not be happy while driving it.

Mercedes Diesels (like the 240D or 300D) are pretty well known for going over 1 million miles (they are a common 'Taxi' car in Germany).

That 'guy' with the Volvo is 'Irv Gordon' (I live on Long Island, as he does and we belong to some of the same groups). And if anyone would like, I have a 1965 Volvo 1800 for sale that is similar to the same car he has (of course, with much less mileage on it ATM).

1993 Pontiac Bonneville (daily driver)
1988 VW Jetta (registered and insured, just not ready to take over as DD yet)
1972 1800E (Parts car)
1972 1800ES (almost done with dis-assembly, going for bodywork and then getting new engine (performance) just before paint)
1965 1800S (it found me. Bought from the Original Owners wife. I really need to sell this car before it takes resources away from my other projects)
