She showed a PG film called Strange World to her class of 5th graders/ 8 year olds. In the description she said that she got parent permission from all of the parents to show the film.

A gay, biracial character is in the film. This is the issue for ONE parent. It only takes ONE parent to cause issues. My thing is, why take the chance on your career by showing a film that could be an issue. She should had picked a "safe" film from the shool library and called it a day. Our environment today is sad. People get upset over everything today. Why risk your teaching career, especially in a state like Florida.

If she got all the parents permission then what’s the problem?

Maybe the father signed the agreement slip, but not the mother. When the child got home, he/she told the mother and she got mad and immediately called the shool.

That is one possible scenerio.

One of the parents is on the school board and filed the complaint.
Yes, although it's important to note that no one has to be a parent of a kid in the class to file a complaint. Hell, you don't even have to have kids.

While I know DeSantis passed this law because he's trying to get attention through culture war this is going to end up with a never ending stream of sympathetic people like this teacher getting their careers attacked because of crazy people. It might help DeSantis in a primary election but it's going to be a big downer for Republicans generally.

Republicans wrote these laws so vague that any shitbag can file a complaint and ruin a teacher's career which is what they want.

I don't think her career is destroyed. There are like zero teachers out there and they can basically pick where they want to be. Teachers today as exceedingly hard to replace particularly in small rural areas..

Seems like the laws are working exactly as intended: generating confusion, fear and silencing non traditional views.

Oh they will gladly ruin her career in Florida. Do you think it's easy for people to just pick and move to go to another state that isn't as backwards? And why do you suggest rural areas where they need teachers? Those people are the worst about the very thing that is getting her in trouble here. You propose having her relocate out of her state AND into some regressive shithole of people worse than those who are persecuting her now?

Ron DeSantis is the problem. He'd literally burn the entire LGBT community alive if he could get away with it. And he'll find any way he can to attack them. We need to stop pretending there's ANY different between Republicans and Nazis.

Sounds like the parents should throw the woman off the board and then publicly shame her.

Remember Republicans crying foul and claimed it isn't a "Don't say gay" law. Doesn't this case kinda prove it is?
Republicans would say they aren't being anti-LGBT+ while striking the match the burn them at the stake. You have to realize that there are only 2 types of things Republicans say, purely evil or total lies.
