Florida State College Essay

Shawn

Lifer
One of the essays I'm writing has gone over one page and I'd tried everything I can to cut it down but I really don't want to get rid of any more. Can I go over 3 lines onto a second page or should I try to take more off?

from their site:
The essay is a very important part of your application. It assists the University in knowing you as an individual, independent of test scores and other objective data. We ask that you respond to two of the following topics. Your personal statement should be no longer than one page each or a total of two pages for both statements. The best personal statements are not necessarily the longest ones.

Let someone else read it, oftentimes "essential" things are just things you've become fixated on for no rational reason. Generally speaking though, they won't spazz out that much if its slightly over. Only case when you need to watch out is if it's an online entrance form and the form will actually cut off anything over a certain word count. In that case you're screwed. If its by paper don't sweat it too much, but try to trim.

the rules state that you can go over, but your second essay will have to be three lines short of a page. it just has to be two pages total. that's how i understand the rules anyway.

Not unless you steal checks or play football. If you don't do those, then you might have a hard time getting in.

no, they were too busy crying over getting their asses handed to them on the field. 😀

Ummm..there was no asses being handed in the FSU vs. UM game this year. It was a battle between two very good teams and it could have gone either way.

College? I remember those days.. ACtually I don't...

1) smalelr font
2) wider top/bottom margins
3) wider left/right margins
4) use a thesorous to find smaller words where large ones are used.

Karl

yeah check word to make sure you have 1" margins, not the stupid 1.25" margins it defaults to. i would advise not changing the font though. best is to slightly screw with line spacing.

no way, the only reason it was so close was because of stupid mistakes. look at the stats for the game, miami had almost twice as many total yards, more 3rd down conversions, etc. fsu was PLAYED.

dude...FSU had 4 turnovers too. There were many mistakes with both teams. Yards mean nothing in the end, it's the team that wins, and the team that loses. FSU lost, but it was not an ass kicking. I can't believe you'd argue it was. So, believe what you want.

kicking ass doesn't necessarily mean winning by 30 points. when i say "they got their ass handed to them" i mean that they were completely embarassed. and when i say "they", i really mean rix. 😛 first qb in the history of the ncaa to lose to the same team 5 times. buhahahahahaha. 😀
