Best way to keep a country/society/people from moving forward is to keep them focused on the bitterness of the past.

This just got more interesting

the long list of expenditures filed with the Florida Division of Elections by Artiles' political committee, Veterans for Conservative Principles, also raised some questions. Why did the committee hire a former Hooters "calendar girl" and a Playboy model with no political experience as "consultants?" Were the payments related to a trip to the Kentucky Derby or a fishing tournament in Key West? What was the more than $51,000 in reimbursements to Artiles for?

Heather Thomas, the a former Hooters calendar girl and waitress at 101, a restaurant and bar in Tallahassee, was paid $2,000 between March and June of last year. The expense report lists the purpose as "consultant." Her friend, Brittney Singletary, is a waitress at Stetsons on the Moon in Tallahassee. She was paid $1,500 with three checks covering three of the same dates and listing the same purpose.

Artiles' political consultant David Custin refused to comment on why they listed the expenditures as "consultants."

Dammit....beat me to it. LOL!

Florida state senator, now resigned, had Playboy and Hooters models on political payroll

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/fl...ls-on-political-payroll/ar-BBA9Tii?li=BBnbcA1

Just months before his resignation Friday, Florida state Sen. Frank Artiles unseated Democrat Dwight Bullard with an aggressive $1 million campaign in a district that favored Democrats.

But the long list of expenditures filed with the Florida Division of Elections by Artiles' political committee, Veterans for Conservative Principles, also raised some questions. Why did the committee hire a former Hooters "calendar girl" and a Playboy model with no political experience as "consultants?" Were the payments related to a trip to the Kentucky Derby or a fishing tournament in Key West? What was the more than $51,000 in reimbursements to Artiles for?

Artiles' political consultant David Custin refused to comment on why they listed the expenditures as "consultants."

"You don't have a leg to stand on to be asking these questions. There's nothing there," he said.

Sometimes, the winning is just too much to handle, I suppose.

So his treatment of black people didn't do it? It was having hot chicks on the payroll?

GOP still smells. They tolerate racists even in 2017.

From what we're told, he resigned over the racist tirade. The hot chicks on the payroll thing went public after he resigned. Hard to say what was the real reason. Might have been a combination.

Hey, when you're famous they just let you do it. They don't even mind.
This guy didn't even have to take them furniture shopping. He just moved on them.

When are you guys ever going to get over using Robert Byrd as a talking point? How long ago did Byrd use the N word and for how many decades did he repudiate his former racism? The 1950's was a very different time than now. Political correctness didn't exist then. And democrats were popular in the south. Hence many of them were racist. That was before the southern strategy, before a lot of things which changed the orientation of both parties as well as the national culture in relation to racism. Talking about Byrd's racism from 70 years ago is like saying the GOP is an anti-racist party in 2017 because Lincoln freed the slaves in 1863.

Who is this democrat who used the n word in a speech to the NAACP? Did he use it in a way that endorsed the sentiment behind it, or was he quoting someone else or denouncing the word? Link it.

There is no double standard here. If a democrat actually used the N word in racist tirade, he'd be out of office just as this jackass should be. There's a double standard between black and white in relation to using that word, but not between dem and rep.
I don't know if it was the last time, but Byrd said it in an interview in 2001. http://www.cnn.com/2001/ALLPOLITICS/03/04/byrd.slur/

That same year, California Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante used the word in his keynote speech to black unionists, NAACP representatives, and other Democrat leaders at the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists awards dinner.

By the way, he still received the endorsement of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists.

So we have pre-civil rights Dem. You do know where they all went right? As for the one goto Byrd when was the last time a Republican racist completely renounced his past and totally apologized. Byrd did this.

Blacks even forgave George Wallace and he was one of the most famous racists in the 20th century. He had his come to Jesus moment and asked for forgiveness. Took a bullet to push him.

Republican leadership needs to have public unequivocal renouncements of racists in their midst. I don't see state leadership lowering the boom on this guy. It's the responsibility of Ric Scott. If he won't do it then national leadership needs to step up.
Agreed - as long as it is express racism. No "tax cuts are racism", "not supporting illegal immigration is racism", "school choice is racism", etc.

Bustamonte didn't use the word intentionally, and he has a strong record of supporting civil rights for blacks. You say he was given a pass because he's a dem. He was given a pass because his record is pro civil rights. You're right that a republican wouldn't get a such pass, assuming that said republican has a typical conservative record of not supporting things like affirmative action. It matters what you say, but it matters more what you do.

Byrd used the term "white n*****s." It was an inappropriate expression. Had he used it in reference to blacks, I doubt he would have survived politically. He nonetheless was criticized by people on the left for it at the time he used it. Your link says as much. Also, like Bustamonte, he had a pro civil rights voting record. We may excuse bad language more so from people who have a positive record.

I think Byrd has to be judged in historical context. For someone raised in a highly racist environment, it's remarkable that Byrd did the right thing and repudiated it. Many of those racist dems did not and ended up becoming republicans instead.
