Yep, it varies by county. Tax is 6% in Palm Beach, but 7.0% or 7.x% in Sarasota.

8.75% in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
NY State rate went from 4.00% to 4.25% about a year ago.
This makes buying fairly expensive stuff like cameras and such over the Intarweb quite attractive, even if shipping is a few bucks.

Its 7% here in Sarasota. On big purchases most people here drive up to Manatee county to save .5% 🙂

Is that provincial+GST? IIRC Quebec was around 9% provincial and 7% GST. All I know is that 16% was painful to see on a receipt especially when you come from a state that only charges 4.5%.

Correct. But there is no PST in Alberta 🙂
