Don't lawmakers have better things to do?

The Florida Senate on Thursday passed an amendment to impose a $60 fine on Truck Nutz, one brand name for the novelty item on vehicle trailer hitches that resemble the dangling southern end of a northbound bull.

The proposal would make displaying bull genitalia reproductions on a vehicle subject to a $60 fine, moving violations and points against a driver license.

The penalties were proposed by Sen. Carey Baker, R-Eustis.

Sen. Jim King, R-Jacksonville, said he had a set on one of his vehicles, which he described as "all pimped out." They are no more than "an expression of truckliness," he said, although he'd acceded to his wife's request to take them off.

"I find it shocking we'd tell people with metallic testicles on their bumpers that this is a violation," said Sen. Steve Geller, D-Hallandale. "There's got to be better things for us to spend time debating."

Geller suggested this ban might be followed by prohibiting silhouettes of nude women on truck mud flaps.

"We're basically going to have the bumper police," King said.

"All their concerns are legitimate," Baker said of the critics. "And I do have more important things to do this session. But I think this is important, too."

The transportation bill was debated Thursday, and a vote is expected next week. The House version, however, doesn't include the prohibition.

One of my customers makes those things. I asked him if he could make me a brass pair, he said yeah. Then I asked if he could make a pair that drug on the ground, he said yep. He also said he puts LED lights in them and can put blue LEDs in the pair that sag to the ground :)

Not that I'd ever put any of that crap on my 4runner, but still

True we shouldn't have to legislate good taste.
Damn they're like badges of idiocy. I look at the drivers like a train wreck, I just can't help but stare.

Those truck testicles are horrible.

Outlawing them would be even more horrible.

(Edit in italics after I reread OP and saw it wasn't law yet.)

I think it's more about protecting the state's reputation. Wouldn't want people to think they're a bunch of rednecks, what with one of their state senators having truck nuts and all. ;)

Kinda curious on this issue.

You can't walk around showing your balls, that'll get you arrested and branded for life as a sexual offender. How does visual depictions play into that? Could I display pornography as a paint job on my car? Where's the line between actually displaying something and displaying a representation?

Remember there was that VW bug in California with a big vagina air brushed onto the hood, and a bunch of people claimed it caused them to get into accidents?

for paying their elected officials to even discuss truck nutz.

I fail to see how something as ridiculous as animal testes hanging from a bumper constitutes a traffic hazard or distraction. If you get distracted by something like this then it's time for you to put the cell phone down, set your coffee back in the cup holder, pull over to the side of the road, get out and hand your keys to the first residentially challenged person you see and walk back to your house because I would NOT want to be on the same road you are!

What if they decide to take them off the bumper and hang them in the rear facing window...what then? some new pointless piece of legislation?
