Many think Willingham would not have been fired if Meyer was not available. Now what does ND do? Notre Dame is getting what they deserve for firing Willingham.

That's what happens when you start counting the chickens before they hatch.

Why would he not come here to sunny gainesville?? This is the best job in college football, and a hell of a lot fairer than indiana.

Exactly. Better pay, better location, no state income tax and better talent. Florida is high pressure, but Notre Dame is insane pressure.

I wouldn't go there....then again I'm kinda biased against UF. ;)

Surprising. Many consider ND to be the top coaching job in all college football.

ROFL, used to be that Notre Dame had first pick of coaches and recruits. Now their top coaching choice jilts them and they can't field a good team because the top athletes go to other schools. Hopefully NBC will get the message and dumb their contract so we can see some decent games instead of Notre Dame stomping on Army and Navy.

They can't recruit the tallent anymore. They have to reduce their academic standards first. And then they have to do things like encourage their student guides of potential recruits to go down on them during campus visits (true UF story).

Sad, but true.

UF's football-challenged new President is smart to try and dig himself out of the hole he's gotten himself into after snubbing Spurrier.

Many UF fans already love to hate this new schmuck.

Both schools have some bad karma atm.

If ND doesnt get Meyer, they will get the Berkleys head coach or maybe get Butch Davis now that hes recently free.

ND annually has one of the toughest schedules in football. That's not a disputable fact. And they don't play Army all that often. In fact I cannot remember the last time they did. Their contract with Navy is a tradition and will continue for a long long time. That is personally one of my favorite games every year, being a ND fan, because the Navy boys always come in and give ND a hell of a fight.

ND does NOT have to reduce their academic standards. There are plenty of intelligent football players out there, but the problem for ND since Lou Holtz left is that they haven't had good recruiting coaches. Willingham was a solid coach and an upright guy, but he was a sorry recruiter. Bob Davie was probably the worst recruiter in school history. He was quoted as saying he thought recruiting was overrated.

This could still work out well for ND. There are plenty of solid coaching candidates out there for them to chose from.
