Yea, if he doesn't fall in line and do what everyone else in the room does, he hates America. You nailed it yet again.

Or this guy.

^That dude must HATE his country. Fall in line, conform, do only what the political parties say you can, and enjoy your freedom citizen!

"Oh woe it is to thee who would appear before the public without the proper button down baby blue dress shirt! Quickly, my brothers - arrest the Heretic! Hold him in chains until we have the fall feast of our blessed baby blue shirt wicker God - and then we may sacrifice him as we wave our tiny China-made American flags...."

Yeah no doubt haha

I've no desire to be assaulted or arrested but I'm heavily influenced by principle and sometimes to a fault.

One of my biggest faults and strengths (funny how that works isn't it) as well

This situation most likely would have ended up 'more interesting' had it been me.

I'd like to think that the smart side of my brain would have overruled the principle side of my brain when facing a few hundred thousand volts but, yeah I doubt it too...

and not standing for the pledge, feel free to put on a uniform and go risk your life for the right to sit during it and then talk.

Boy, they really let anyone in the military anymore don't they. People stupid enough to believe that are somehow let in.

I will apologize for remark about "not standing.... go put on a uniform" was little irate at other things and though it personally annoys me to no end that people won't stand for it, and I'll never understand why not.. it is with in their rights to do so.

I, too, served for ~8 years, although a little earlier than you. Got to tour a few spots of interest when I was in. A quaint SE Asian town, Wash. DC, Germany--esp. Munich during Oktoberfest.

But I hear vets making inane comments like "Never wore a uniform? Then STFU!" when talking about "rights" or "freedoms" everyone is intended to enjoy in this country, having served or not. It just grinds my gears.

Wouldn't want someones right to be an ass infringed on.

How is sitting quietly while others do their thing being an ass?

Thats pretty much how I deal with people saying grace to whichever religion they believe. Am I supposed to leave the room or start a debate on which thanks would be acceptable?

If you have sciatic nerve damage then many times you must stand and sit on and off or else lose all feeling to your leg or both.

Many people have this condition and you get it from not having a safe livelyhood.

So people who complain that BOB is always taking the elevator when they should take the stairs are really just stupid and uninformed and its none of their god dam business what the medical needs are of another person.

I think he handled it right
He pointed out that the mayor was in error, stuck by his principle, left when asked and followed up by having the mayor educated on constitutional rights.
Now he intends to go back and make sure his rights aren't trampled on now that the mayor has been properly educated .
If the mayor upon knowing what his obligation is, continues, the mayor should expect the coming sh1tstorm in spite of his feelings of morality and patriotism
