A Florida man is charged with first-degree murder after his mother was found decapitated outside their home on New Year's Eve.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Mario Gomez called 911 on Wednesday evening and told dispatchers that his brother Christian had killed their mother and cut off her head.

Deputies found Maria Suarez-Cassagne's body outside the Oldsmar home, near some garbage cans.

Wow. That's the most messed up mug shot I've seen in a long time. I bet he goes to the state mental institution for a life long stay.

Edit:
According to the sheriff's office, Gomez had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and previously was held under the Baker Act.

Yup, just read the article. Mental dude. Should have been off the streets when they had the chance.

Did he kill her and cut off her head after, or was that what killed her?

How do we determine which crazies to keep off the streets? A person can have a mental disorder and never commit a crime. Do we just imprison everyone who has been diagnosed? What about those that have yet to be diagnosed? Do we force screenings on everyone? Think of the children!

The article mentions his previous arrests. Examining him and using his past behavior, a panel of psychiatrists could probably make a determination in the best interest of the mental patient and society. It is too bad they didn't have enough to keep him off the streets. Sad story.

None of his arrests were violent of nature. Loitering? Resisting arrest without violence? I am not even sure how one does that. Do you tell the cop placing you under arrest "No thanks!" and he stops?

What judge would say "well this guy with mental issues occasionally loiters! He is a threat to himself and society! Lock him up!". Come on now.

What are you arguing about?
