None of you understand the true issue do you? The issue is....are the Swift Boat folks being directed by the Bush camp? The answer is no.

Are some Republicans supporting the Swift Boat folks? Yes. There is nothing wrong with that.

Have any of you ever worked on political campaigns? I have and this is nothing unusual. I worked on a campaign for governor, among others, and it isn't unusual to have people who work or support various causes working/volunteering for the local party. Happens all the time. Something like this happened on one campaign I was working on. An anti abortion group, not endorsed by the candidate, was handing out flyers for him at a football game. Some people tried to raise a stink about it......in the end it went nowhere because the campaign was not involved with that group. Same thing here....you can have a local party supporting a cause that isn't directed by or related to the candidate in any way. The people trying to make this some sort of "smoking gun" to show that the Bush campaign is directing the Swift Boat group are REALLY grasping at straws.

OMG! Republicans who support the Swift Boat Veterans! Teh horrors!

What's the difference in that and someone posting a link here to support MoveOn.org? I can't use that to declare there is a link between Kerry and them, can I? I guess maybe I could if I wanted to be complete crackpot.

People are backing groups that they think are right. The Bush campaign isn't directly funding this group, other anti-Kerry supporters are. Kerry's campaign isn't directly funding MoveOn.org, other anti-Bush supporters are. What's the big deal? People working towards a similar goal does NOT equal collaboration. I think some liberal here posted that a few days ago when someone DID try to connect Kerry and MoveOn. It's just as true now as it was then.

So linking to a 527 site would probably be a bad idea, eh?

Right?

you know - moveon.org?

Former Vice President Al Gore Remarks to MoveOn.org
New York University (Remarks as Prepared)

Thursday 07 August 2003

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Thank you for your investment of time and energy in gathering here today. I would especially like to thank Moveon.org for sponsoring this event, and the NYU College Democrats for co-sponsoring the speech and for hosting us.
oh yah, Al gore is no longer tied to the Democrat party?

I would say one in every 5 democratic web sites I visited had a link to moveon.org.

Screw that. Let's see Gaard come back and respond to alchemize's comments below (err.. I mean above). You know, the ones with links to Democrats' websites that include praise and links for MoveOn.org. I'd be interested to hear what spin could possibly be used to defend the original post.

Well, perhaps the distinction is a little too subtle, but MoveOn has existed long before Kerry became the nominee, and has financing from lots and lots of donors. SBVFT, on the other hand, was created and financed specifically to smear Kerry, by a major Bush contributor and students of the Chuck Colson school of dirty tricks.

Nor do I agree with those who claim that the Bush camp is coordinating campaigns. The Bush camp is just one of the puppets, the SBVFT is another, all dancing to the tune of their big money sponsors. Which is apparently not something anybody considered when writing the law about 527's...

The worst kind of sleaze, straight from the Willie Horton school of political advertising, complete with all the oh-so-correct detachments and plausible deniability- one in a long line of many, bearing the watermark of the powers behind the throne in the Republican party. Beneath contempt, for sure, but not illegal...

What else do they have to campaign on, anyway, other than taxcuts everybody knows are a lie... fiscal irresponsibility, outing national security assets, funding the fundie fringe, appointing them to scientific boards, paving the way for increased environmental degradation, Abstinence only non-education about sex, invading other nations on the basis of fearmongering and greed... and the list goes on...

No wonder they'd rather talk about vietnam, even though dubya's family made sure he never got near the place....
