Let me give you the rundown on how I got my LIFETIME carry permit in Indiana.

Step 1) Walk to county jail, pick up app.
Step 2) Fill out app.
Step 3) Get 2 cashiers checks, one for jail and one for state.
Step 4) Give filled out app and checks to teller at jail.
Step 5) Get fingerprinted.
Step 6) Wait 3 weeks for permit in the mail.

There is no training required, just some money and a desire to carry a gun.
You did it the long way.

Step 1) Go online to L-1 Idendity Solutions, fill out form, book electronic finger printing and pay state fee.
Step 2) Go get electronic FP
Step 3) take receipt to local LEO Department and give them county fee.
Step 4) Go home.
Step 5) Get LTCH in 5 days.
:D

My CCW class was a 2 day course that included training on how to draw from your CCW holster and proper way to draw when wearing different clothes. They also required you shoot at least 200 rounds and hit the 12x16 piece of paper at 10 yards each time (actually I think it was 80% or something). IIRC police here only have to qualify once ever few years and even then the re-certification only involves them firing 100 rounds at a piece of paper 5 yards away (not even a silhouette)

Each class is different though...

That seems more reasonable to me along with ongoing proficiency testing and/or mandatory refresher courses.

I think the Police might do well to have more stringent training and re-certification as well.

This is straight from the MCOLES standard for active duty police officers...

The course of fire consists of 25 rounds of ammunition, using a standard academy target, at
the following distances:
• 2-yards (6 rounds)
• 3 yards (6 rounds)
• 4 / 7 yards (2 targets, 10 rounds)
• 10 yards (3 rounds)

They do that twice a year, so all in all Michigan state police officers only have to qualify shooting 50 rounds per year :(

Also, in CO the license is only good for 5 years, so you have to re-take a class every 5 years.

The second is because I feel that I am responsible for the firearm I carry. It would be irresponsible of me to carry a weapon and be improperly trained to use it and retain it.

Kudos to you sir. That's is an awesome attitude and philosophy to have when it comes to gun ownership.

I see. I think it qas 3 years ago that my county finally got on board and made it possible to do the L1 thing.

Have you alway had a life time license? and where did you get your training?

Same, 8hrs, but my instructor was great.

50 rnds total. 10 each, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 yards. Man sized target. Score 70% or better.

NC requires 8 hrs in class with 2 (3?) hrs minimum spent on state laws.

The shooting test though is lol. 50 rounds, 3, 5, 7 yards. You only have to get 70% on paper. I don't see how you could fail.

This was my target from CHL class:
