My friend has got the following system.
P4-2.4 GHz(533 MHz FSB)
Intel D845 GEBV2 MOBO
and the rest.

After loading the OS(windows 98SE) the floppy drive is duly recognized and displayed and works also. But after motherboard drivers are loaded it vanishes from My Computer and floppy drive doesn't work.

The same floppy drive gets recognized and works under Windows XP even after MOBO drivers are loaded.

Please Help.I have posted this on technical help section but probably nobody(who can solve the problem) visits that because I haven't been able to extract any response despite bumping.

I don't know what the problem is. I didn't know any mobo drivers fooled with the floppy.

FWIW:

Did you force Windows to install any drivers after it objected? If so, don't. Maybe a driver is not for W98se but XP.

Is a floppy controller listed in Device Manager? How about a floppy?

Have you had Windows attempt to detect new devices?

How many times have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the mobo drivers?

One thing you can try is to boot into safe mode (press F8) and delete any floppy drives and floppy controllers. Check for any "ghost" devices and delete. Reboot in regular mode, detect, and install. Watch to see if Windows mentions any mysterious devices. The only time I personally had W9x screw up a floppy was when it installed a non-existent tape drive. There used to be tape drives that worked worked off a floppy controller.

Was this a clean install of W98se? If not, delete all devices in Device Manager in safe mode.

Is the floppy enabled in the BIOS? How about the floppy controller? Some BIOSes have a setting to disable the floppy controller. A lot of people don't even have a floppy nowadays.

Is the floppy cable reversed?

You are bucking the trend with W98. Good driver support is dropping off for W98 and switching to XP.
